The Confederation of Traelec
INTRODUCTION
The Confederation of Traelec was a key player in Abeon's history during the late fourth period. Even though it only lasted a short one-hundred fifty years, less than half a human lifetime, the Confederation paved the way for the rise and dominance of the Archkingdom of Grinalia during the late fifth period.
HISTORY
Disruption and war in the south of Abeon brought major tension between the peninsula and Archia- officially united as the Archian Empire in 4619 4p. King Sephtis Eleymas, who had been reigning over the expanding empire for over fifty years, bore down hard on taxes and recruitment from the peninsula, supporting the ongoing conflict with Meluhur as well as a trade war with the island knightdom of Ardune. Rebellion had been rife throughout the north for the entirety of Septhis' reign, but in 4630, an actual union was made between Cizmark and Trouffen, two of the major Archian cities in the deep north. The memory of the Archian desecration of Cizmark in 4577 (see Claxton Pollard) brought together a small force of four hundred soldiers who called themselves 'The First Traelecii Army'. The Army was led by Claxton William Pollard, Traelec's greatest hero and first lord of Trouffen Province. In just over a year, Claxton and his allies forced Lord Sephtis to surrender and officially recognize the new Confederation as sovereign. This blow crippled the Archian Empire for the duration of its existence, until it eventually collapsed in 4793 4p>5p. Traelec enjoyed a peaceful next hundred years, dealing with minor incursions from Archia, and almost no inward strife. However, the peace ended in dramatic fashion in early 4781, with the death of Northswardian Lord and Traelecii Rebellion hero Oldrik the Wise. The traitorous John Dolion took control of Northsward and began to make incursions into neutral territory of Traelec. Trouffen Province felt threatened, especially since the murder of Lord Travon Becker was losely connected to the Adorian Lord, and acting Lord Jaxson Arden sent his army to destroy Adorea and Northsward, resulting in the two month civil war which ended the Confederation entirely. In its ashes, following the siege of Adorea, Lord Arden built the Kingdom of Traelec, and successfully defended the broken land against Archia during The Third Magic War of Abeon.
CUSTOMS
The Confederation was almost identical to the Archian Empire, as it was in the fourth period, with one major distinction: there was no royal family. While there was debate about the fairness of distribution of land- as accomplished by the Land Administrator chosen by each elected Lord- the freedoms enjoyed through the election of Captains and Lords were greater than any other Abeonic nation. The system was created perfectly, but there was obviously no future for Traelec. The custom to only elect a Lord after the previous Lord's death was ripe for corruption, and one of the three founders John Dolion took advantage of this. Despite the system's shortcomings, the some one hundred odd years of peace were well earned and enjoyed by the people of the north.
