Catelyn Meyer

Written by Asa M Jacobson

Lady Catelyn Ivanson (a.k.a. The Peacemaker)

 INTRODUCTION

Catelyn Meyer was a great warrior during the final years of the Fourth Period, the only female elected to the office of Lord of Kristar in the The Confederation of Fondalar. Her primary impact came during The Third Magic War of Abeon, where she led Kristonian forces during the Battle of Red Fields, alongside her sister Neville Meyer and Kristonian Commander Blaze Axton. Meyer remained a great legend in the Northern Peninsula for hundreds of years, even after Fondalar's destruction in 5345 5p.

EARLY LIFE

Catelyn Meyer was born to a farmer named Jacoby, the patriarch of a poor peasant family living in the uncertain and turbulent times of discovery following the Fondalian Rebellion. Her older sister, Neville, was lucky enough to attend the only university in Kristar Province as a twenty-one year old. Catelyn, being only seventeen at the time, was significantly ahead of Neville in speech and history. Feeling cheated out of an education by her parents, Catelyn went somewhat rogue, resenting her older sister the most. However, after two years of roaming the Confederation, Catelyn was given a large sum of money from an anonymous source, with the promise of more to pay for her education in Farburgh. It was nearly a century later that she learned that Neville had been her secret contributor.

 ADULT LIFE

After graduating in Farburgh at 24 years old, Catelyn moved to the city of Kristar, where she became a top level diplomat for the Lord of the Province. She constructed treaties with the North Isles and Tsonlar, and began building trusted relationships with her peers in other nations, including Ellimaih Allymar, the goddaughter of the High-Lord of Tsonlar. In 3743 4p, the Lord of Kristar died, having lived nearly three hundred years. Although many suspected a captain from the surrounding towns to be selected, the captains of Kristar chose Catelyn to succeed to the throne, believing her bridges with other nations to be a driving force for peace. Catelyn accepted, and began putting Kristar at the forefront of allyships and treaties, often representing the entire Confederation in peace declarations. However, she was quickly overwhelmed with her military duties. Fortunately she was taught by Captain Ivanson, a commander of the previous King's army and family friend of the Meyer's. After a decade of learning, Catelyn mastered the skill of swordfighting, military strategy, and leading multiple armies. When Archia attacked the wasteland city of Clochar in 4775 4p, Lady Catelyn was more than ready to personally lead a repelling assault in the desert.

 EARLY MILITARY DEPLOYMENTS

Lady Meyer was at the forefront of many of the Confederation's fighting, even during the years of relative peace (4707 4p - 4780 4p). During the invasion of Clochar, Lady Meyer led her troops into battle against General Amon Elymas, brother to High-King Sephtis of Archia. Although the dispute was not resolved until Lord Kerian VI of Ardune pulled all Archian troops from the Northern Peninsula in 4785 4p, Catelyn led a relative victory in the latter days of 4786 4p, effectively freeing the northern half of Clochar from Archian rule. Unbeknownst to her at the time, vast deposits of Emanult lay beneath the belltower, which was Sephtis' seemingly bissare purpose for invading the near-ghost town. Perhaps the most influential deployment of Kristonian forces led by Lady Meyer, were the forces she dispatched to Grinalia Plain during the First Fondalian Civil War, winning Lord Jaxson of Trouffen a major victory over Adorian Forces at the Battle of Riship. The commander of the army was Re''inn Stevenson. After the war took a turn in the Opposition States favor when it was revealed that both Hofslond and The Daines Rangers had joined Jaxson, Lady Meyer emptied Kristar and joined with the massive coalition to finally rid Fondalar of the corrupt Lord John Dolion. During the Battle of Grinalia Plain, it is said Catelyn slew hundreds, at the helm of the massive Kristonian Cavalry Charge which won the Trouffenese Coalition the victory. Shortly after, she again fought with her Kristonian Cavalry at the Battle of Red Fields in the beginning of the Third Magic War. The bloody siege of Kristar cost Catelyn everything she loved, including her parents and her only sister, Neville. In the following battles, the Lady of Kristar was often observed in her own world of hate, slaughtering the enemy in a drive of bloodlust. After the Last Stand at Shoreson, in which nearly forty-thousand humans, arvenon, drows, chambraids, and valkyrie died; Meyer put down her sword and shield, vowing to never again take arms in defense of her homeland. For the last two and a half centuries of her life, Catelyn kept her promise and did not slay a single soul.

DIPLOMATIC EFFORTS

Catelyn made significant efforts to establish the Freedom Treaty as a binding document, and expanding the borders of the Confederation's influence in her short span as Lady of Kristar. She established peaceful relations with The Tsondalian Free Empire because of her relationship with Lady Allymar, which secured a major victory over the Archian Empire during the Third Magic War. She also became the first Fondalian to ever set foot in the North Isles, and helped negotiate a trade agreement with the Chambraids to ensure a proper supply of timber and gold came to Fondalar through Northsward. Even though her efforts ended up in vain, with the Confederation disbanding in 4781 4p to ensure survival against Archia, Catelyn managed to make a major impact on the Northern Peninsula, and ripples throughout all of Abeon. Her status as a peacemaker inspired the future generations of Ardune, Grinalia, and Tsonlar to ensure total peace in Abeon in the Seventh Period.

 LIFE IN THE FIFTH PERIOD

After the creation of the First United Fondalian Kingdom, Lady Meyer lived out the rest of her days in relative peace. She married Captain Ivanson in 4803 5p, and lived her days as a diplomatic Advisor to King Jaxson I. Even as the Kingdom of Fondalar began to weaken and crumble during the reign of Preston I, Catelyn never made an attempt at the throne, being far too weary to return to politics. In the final days of the year 5034 5p, Lady Catelyn Meyer of Kristar died, surrounded by her children and grandchildren. She was buried in her infamous black suit of armor, but without her trusty arming sword, showing respect to her honorable vow. Catelyn was the last of the Protector's Guild to die. Shortly after, the ArchKingdom of Grinalia began to start hostilities with Fondalar, eventually leading to the young kingdoms invasion and downfall less than three hundred years later.
