Kerian VI (K-ear-ian Mahn-teal)
INTRODUCTION
Kerian Montiel VI was the eighth and greatest king of the Ardune Empire, famous for his bold invasions of the Blue Hills and the Archian Empire during the events of the Third Magic War of Abeon. From his succession to the throne of Ardune, to his mythic birthright as ruler of Archia and Middleton, King Montiel VI remains one of the most mysterious warriors of the Age of Freedom during the Fourth Period (3701-4793).
EARLY LIFE
Puluke Montiel was born to Kerian and Lucille Montiel in the year 4661 4p, in the small island nation of Ardune. As the second oldest of the High King Kerian V, Puluke was expected to be a great warrior, to future serve as a Lord in his Brother Kerian's court once their father died. Puluke was rigorously taught how to fight and defend, as well as learn strategies and military genius from the books of the Siednik Wars and of some Third Period master generals. By the age of 24, Puluke had surpassed his brother and father in military might. The people loved his grace, his mother loved his wisdom, and all the girls coveted his handsomeness. Puluke was a born leader, and everyone knew it from an early age.
RISE TO POWER
In Freezmir of 4703, the Haze Plague returned to Abeon for the third time, ravaging the countryside. Ardune did not remain immune. In 4708, over sixty thousand men of Ardune lost their lives to the plague, including Puluke's older brother, Kerian. After losing the prince, Kerian V immediately announced Puluke as the heir apparent, renaming him Kerian. With the people's will behind him, and now an open road to the throne, Kerian siezed his opportunity and made plans to conquer both Fondalar and Archia once he ascended the throne. When his father discovered his plans, he quickly exiled him for instruction and punishment to the Wearmont Tundra. Kerian spent two years in Wearmont, before returning to his homeland. Upon his arrival, assassins murdered his father, Kerian V. Historians and scholars debate whether or not he played a part in the treason, but nonetheless, he was joyously crowned Kerian VI by the people in Firsteli of 4716, at the incredibly young age of 54.
THE INVASION OF ARCHIA
On the first day of his reign, Kerian eliminated all his enemies, anyone who possibly would scheme for the throne. The nobles lived in fear, not wishing to displease their new king. However, to his friends and allies, Kerian showed immense kindness and generosity, most notably known for letting his commanders and their soldiers keep all the riches from a victory. With his charisma and harsh judgement, Kerian won the hearts of the people and became the most powerful and loved king in Abeon. By 4774 4p, Kerian VI had a standing army numbering close to fifty thousand strong. The time had finally come for his invasion of Middleton, and the first step of his plan was set in motion. On Seolos 46th, 4775, Kerian sent his firstborn son to Archia to rise in the ranks of the Archian military. After patiently scheming and waiting for six years, Kerian VI finally received word from his son in Markus of 4781. The Siege of Blackstone had been ordered by Lord King Amon of Archia, and Kerian VII was leading the army. Seizing the opportunity, King Kerian VI drilled and prepared his army to sail to the Cordal Coast and land in Kornon for an invasion of the Archian Empire. Upon receiving word that the fortress of Blackstone had been captured, and that Kerian VII had complete control over the army from Hephley, the Ardune Army sailed across the channel and landed near the port city of Kornon. A mercenary band of Valkyrie from Timburst joined Kerian, and the total number of his forces surpassed sixty thousand. On Atember 12th, 4781, the army of Ardune marched upon the defenses of Kornon, crushing them in a mere four days. With the Archian Army distracted in the North by the Fondalians, and the south by Lord Allymar and the Arvenon, Kerian VI met little resistance throughout the Cliffsby Terrain. Most of the towns welcomed the King, already tired of the constant wars of the Elymas brothers. On Atember 44th, word spread throughout Archia that all the Lords of the Elymas household had been slain during the Battle of Red Fields in Kristar, and that there was now a dispute in Ceenar whether the Commander Kerian, the King's of Ardune's son, or Emille of the House Bassote would become the new ruler. Kerian sought to march upon Ceenar hastily, but was distracted by a band of Archians and Dwarves from Dusswik. In what became the most brutal and lobsided battle of the war, Kerian VI slaughtered the entire army, including prisoners, as well as women and children of the camp.
THE WAR WITH EMILE
On Freezmir 14th, 4782, Commander Kerian Montiel VII signed a treaty with Fondalar, ensuring the invasion of Kristar would cease and all troops would be recalled to Ceenar. As the Archian army returned to the city from across the wastelands, Kerian VI of Ardune entered the city and declared the entirety of the Cliffsby Terrain as conquered territory of the Ardune Empire. In the following years, Kerian and his son conquered the cities of Dusswik, Gazelli, and Barrowhorn, effectively trapping Empress Emile I and her Archian army between the Ardune Empire and the Arvenon of Tsonlar. However, to Kerian's shock, Emile and her troops defeated Lord Allymar and forced them to sign a treaty, giving the lands of Battlewrath back to the Archian Empire. Kerian quickly reorganized his defenses for a full force invasion by Emile. Toward the end of Blossoming 4791, Kerian and his forces found themselves surrounded in the city of Dusswik in Western Middleton. In the furious thirty six day siege of the city, blood was shed all over the forests around the city and inside the great palisade. On Animatos 3rd, 4791, Emile of Ceenar entered the city of Dusswik and conquered its walls. The Ardune forces retreated all the way back to Ceenar, and suffered a massive loss. Kerian Montiel VI was fatally wounded. On Animatos 15th, just twelve days later, Kerian would die from his wounds, and be brought back to Ardune for burial with his family. His son Kerian VII reigned in his place, and would finally defeated and execute Emile Bassote two years later in Jylon of 4793.
LEGACY
Although his dream of a powerful empire ruling over the entirety of middleton outlived him, Kerian VI made drastic steps toward his dream, which eventually was completed by his son Kerian VII toward the beginning of the fifth period in Abeon. Statues, poems, and songs were created honoring the great king, and in the native Ardune homeland, Kerian VI is still known as Kerian the Conqueror. Despite his humble beginnings as the second born of a Lord of an Island, Kerian fought his way to the top of the line and achieved such victories for Ardune, as to make his name known across the seas, as far east as Threstria and Ironhand, and as far south as Fynwhich. Kerian the Conqueror is undoubtedly the greatest King of the Ardune Empire ever to live.
