Opal World

Geography

While it is classified as a planet, the opal world formed through very unusual means. It possesses a super dense core with the outer layers gradually becoming softer biomasses. The entire planet seems to be made from simple proteins pulled together under its own gravity.   There is a surface layer where one is able to walk across its sludgy surface and through a murky atmosphere. This planetary atmosphere merges seamlessly into the interplanetary clouds as if it were all apart of the world.

Ecosystem

Interplanetary Atmosphere

Interplanetary space, or the space between the planets, is filled with the solar wind, interplanetary magnetic field (IMF), cosmic rays, and dust. Somehow, the nebula's particle debris is able to maintain a higher denser than the surrounding vacuum.
Even though you are still moving in a zero-gravity environment, it is like moving through air.

Planetary Tail
Solar wind particles travel through interplanetary space at supersonic speeds. A bow shock helps the solar wind to go around obstacles (comets and planetary magnetospheres) in interplanetary space.   Similar lines trace the path made by man-made crafts moving through the region.

Localized Phenomena

Prionic Ocean

The immediate surface layer of the planet is covered in puddles of infectious self-propagating protein that causes deteriorated mental ability, loss of motor functions and death within months for anyone caught while in an organic body. Such misfolded proteins are everywhere on the world and stretch into the alien atmosphere corrupting other naturally occurring protein strands; either in the space atmosphere or in people. However, long segments do not tend to survive as they are physically dismantled in the IMF and solar winds; but new formations are similarly random.

Natural Resources

Biomass: A cosmic stew of organic material, mostly protein molecules, derived from an unknown process.   Moll: A mutagen that drifts listlessly in streams above Opal World.

Tourism

Thetíans
Ethnicity | Mar 3, 2024

Discorporated people primarily inhabiting machines

Late comers to the system and where the remaining majority of thetíans opt to divert into the portal.
Delphi
Ethnicity | Mar 3, 2024

A militaristic culture stagnant under the demands of their mission

By order of the pearl directive, they were originally meant to settle Miasmic Astral but were slowed at Anchorage.
Alphi
Ethnicity | Mar 3, 2024

An independently minded, near nomadic, culture who hopscotch between alien places

They are the first to arrive in the system and became custodians to the Opal Portal and its manufacturing facilities.
