League Army Organization in Manifold Sky | World Anvil

League Army

The League Army is the military force of the Free Faces League and the second most advanced military amongst its peers. A part of the Coalition Defense Forces, the League Army provides the steely defensive backbone that the Coalition of Breakaway Colonies requires to survive the lightning-fast onslaughts of the Grand Army of Voxelia.

Structure

The League Army is hierarchical in structure. Separate command structures were established for each of the three theaters in the War of Reunification to which League territories are adjacent. Each of these theater commands coordinates with local elements of the CDF, but ultimately answers to central command elements in Triple Mesa. In terms of rank structure, the League Army is separated into enlisted (with separate routes for mandatory enlistees and voluntary carreer enlistees), non-commissioned officer, and officer corps. Promotion occurs as a result of a combination of demonstrated merit and time in grade, but NCO and CO ranks can only be attained in a second or later term of service to weed out those with an insufficient level of commitment to the cause.

Culture

The League Army embraces a doctrine of total war and defense-in-depth as a counter to their Voxelian counterparts' fast attack doctrine. Generally, once the League Army takes a position, they entrench and never give it back, especially when backed with allied logistical support. While members of the CDF from the Commonwealth of C might brag about their precision dieseltech devices, and those from Craterhold can lay claim to the strongest offensive fervor, neither of them would be able to support the Coalition without the strong defense that the League provides. The League Army knows this fact and takes pride in it.

Public Agenda

The Free Faces League requires all citizens to undertake a two- to four-year term of military service upon reaching the age of majority, the completion of which confers the franchise and the right to carry weapons in public. While League Army members might not possess the self-selected zeal that comes with voluntary service, they come into the service already inculcated in a culture that promotes public service and a certain martial spirit as a matter of tradition, making the job of training sergeants that much easier. Making sure that every citizen has some degree of military training neatly dovetails with the League Army's long-standing doctrine of defense in depth; were Voxelia to invade the League's heartland, they would find holding onto the territory nearly impossible as a result of the hardened insurgency that would inevitably follow.

Assets

The League Army makes liberal use of auto-armor, including the classic PBA-5 "Pioneer" Main Battle Auto-Armor and the formidable BF-6 "Fortress" Mobile Stronghold Auto-Armor provided by the League Dieseltech Armory. The League Army also has a well-developed aerospace program, using airships and autogyros, like the ACG-1 "Aquila" Combat Autogyro, to support their ground forces in combined arms actions.
