Orovical Settlement in Laminarum | World Anvil

Orovical (or-oh-vick-all)

Orovical is a large community of orcs nudged between the Eldurgrund and Northlend Sea. They tend to shun outsiders but are friendlier to dwarves and Urrfolk. The people of the village are handy, making them capable of creating great machinations to keep their enemies away. The minds of the town are largely overlooked, though.   Although the folk in the town tend to be conservative, they have allowed the The Orc-Urr Aegis to establish their headquarters. The orcs of the city believe that all of their kind should gather in a grand capital, and the idea of seeking employment under the lesser humans is pathetic. Due to the clashing ideology, there are occasional clashes between the Aegis and the townsfolk, but the conflict extends beyond establishments. Even the citizens themselves have fallen into conflict throughout the past, particularly the dwarves and Urrfolk.   Today, the settlement still seeks its goal of bringing any outsider orcs into the fold. Their greater political desires are unknown, but they are slowly building a dangerous force, should they desire to militarize. The town itself is subject to the rule of their Chieftain, but if the Harridan at Az Athur has any desires, the citizens will usually obey her instead.

Defences

Orovical has no walls. They do, however, have towers mounted with ballistas and trebuchets. Otherwise, they create massive, wheeled structures which they call "Bloodmills." Their efficacy is questionable, but they are certainly daunting for anyone that wishes to invade.

Infrastructure

Orovical has roads, elaborate furnaces, and rudimentary windmills.

Guilds and Factions

History

Eldurgrund decided to legalize their territory 20 years prior to the silence, as their attempts to force the orcs back were unsuccessful, and would have threatened the involvement of the Rimetusk Clan if they had gone through with their plans. The main roads of Eldurgrund would never be spread up to the orc territory, but eventually the people of Orovical constructed their own roads and even maintain them with guards.

Architecture

The architecture of Orovical is unique, usually incorporating metal into every structure they make. Houses tend to be large and shared, housing as many as 4 multigenerational families at any given time. Further, their rooves of metal tend to be foldable shutters, retractable by pulling on chains. Truly, the orcs are fascinated with moving parts and often experiment with adding little "conveniences" into their everyday structures.
