Ock Ivaran Settlement in Laminarum | World Anvil

Ock Ivaran

Ock Ivaran is a town that was intended to keep the territory under Árkastali in check. It was established by the people of Orovical and is connected via ports and roads. The town is almost entirely orcs that pride themselves on being self sufficient from Orovical, regardless of their allegiance. The settlement was officialized at the same time as Orovical, but only after two attacks had been made on the new (at the time) Árkastali. The two groups were able to come to an agreement about their territory in the Greylend Pact.   Outsiders normally avoid the region, but the town has since become open to outsiders that need a rest, so long as their stay is temporary. They have even come to befriend the orc and dwarvish people of Árkastali and have connected roads with Kaz Reliran as a result. Regardless of the benefits that have arisen from the allegiance with the folk in Árkastali territory, the Chieftain of Orovical has socially disowned the Talisman of Ock Ivaran for breaking bread with the foreigners.

History

Originally just the confluence of several orc tribe routes, Ock Ivaran would become a permanent settlement who's shadow would cast fear upon nearby territories, all ripe for the raiding. Being so remote from any central lordship, the subjects of raiding had little protection, nor a way to easily transport troops from afar, as there were no roads in the region yet (and any that would reach the region would be made by orcs).    After the Greylend Pact, the land that was once an imposing presence would disconnect entirely, ending raids as the pact required. Decades of self sufficiency and expansion within their new land would eventually come to a slow, leaving individuals of every town searching for solutions, especially as their livestock were struck with pestilence. While Orovical turned to the ways of Urrfolk and Icelend Dwarves, Ock Ivaran would go to the subjects of Árkastali. Though they were entrusting the orcs and dwarves of the territory, it was their subjugation by the humans in the territory that sewed distrust from the greater Tribe of Goth Urah. Regardless, it was the new friendships forged by Ock Ivaran that led to the end of their pestilence, the forming of new roads, the development of farming, and the introduction of wine to the community.
