Árkastali (Arc-ah-stall-ee)
Árkastali is the keep owned by the Gadder Family of Eldurgrund. Originally made royalty during the war between the Saltkrigere and Eldur Knights, they weren't made lords until their devotion to the barony when attempting to overthrow the Augury.
When awarded this fine stretch of land that oversaw a lake, they erected this keep upon it. While they have farmers tirelessly working to serve the Gadder, their only named village is Kaz Reliran (inhabited mostly by displaced dwarves and orcs).
Purpose / Function
The purpose of the keep is to house and defend the Gadder family. The land around it ensures that no winter will be too long, though their serfs may not always say the same.
Architecture
The keep is made entirely of stone and utilizes a motte-and-bailey structure. The keep sits upon a large hill that overlooks their walled in courtyard that houses serfs and servants.
Defenses
Towers that form where each of the 4 walls meet have thatch roofs and each of the entry ways to the keep has machicolations. Motes are carved on the outsides of the walls.
History
The castle is considered ancient, built sometime before Ettermiddag. Its ruins served as an outpost for the Eldur Knights during the reclamation of Eldurgrund in 945 EG but wouldn't be rebuilt to its old majesty for hundreds of years. In the last 200 years, it has fended off two major attacks, each from Ock Ivaran after territory disputes. Árkastali warded off both attacks.
