Saltkrigere Organization in Laminarum | World Anvil

Saltkrigere (Salt Kree-gare-ee)

The Saltkrigere were an organized military force under The Island's Five. Loyal only to the Baron of Steirvem, they were to be deployed across every island. Most were intended to pull rank on local authorities or guard. Others served undercover as spies, reporting to Baron Logratte or any of his successors. Their most famous historical feat is the slaughter of the Jurejun cults, uncovered and made public to nobles over the course of the Trinen colonization. Many don't care about this, as history has declared the cults as worshipper of devils and all things demented.   The Saltkrigere is the oldest human order standing today and it is considered an honor to join their ranks. Their use in the modern era officially extends to the Snow-Rock Isles and Shellbay, but a predominantly spy based organization wouldn't be very effective if they only went to officially sanctioned areas.   Joining the Saltkrigere is typically done by the recognition of the Snow-Rock Isles Baron or a recommendation from the Baron of Shellbay (resulting in being sent to the Snow-Rock Isles). This means their numbers aren't always astounding, but in ages of overthrow or war, heroes become abundant. Joining the organization is for life but comes with several benefits. For one, your family is mandatorily relocated to the Snow-Rock Isles (which tends to be safer compared to the rest of human territory), marriage options open up if you were a lower class prior to joining, pay is high, education was provided, and political advancement opportunities grew (and joining one of these political positions is one of the few ways to escape a lifetime career in the military).   Upon death, the family of a Saltkrigere soldier is provided for until their death. If a Saltkrigere spy is discovered and identified, the family is protected and relocated. Funeral rights are the same as a noble, being buried in densely packed salt boiled from oceanwater.

"When devils come and the oceans dry, salt is all they leave behind."
