First Saltkrigere Ground Assault Against Ravahinas

Military: Battle

The first assault against Ravahinas, in which the Saltkrigere suffered great losses, with the initial Saltkrigere explorers serving as guides.

After mobilizing his forces and setting up camps near Ravahinas, Hamish gave word to begin the assault. The troops were unprepared for the attacks, but still believed they had the element of surprise they would require. One of the guides, Petr Thatch-Weaver, wrote that the village, now essentially a fort, wouldn't be possible to take with at least 4 times the men that resided inside (and this was only being able to see the walls on the outside).   A quarter of a mile's worth of trees were broken down and made to walls surrounding the city, and the siege force would need to make their way in nearly water that went inches above the ankles. The rafts would be useless and approaching on foot would be difficult, as would a retreat. Regardless of these clear disadvantages, the active general over the siege set his men to attack from all sides, approaching quietly before raising ladders over the walls.   Halfway through their approach, the Strand-Bloods and Naga-Tel citizens rained arrows from the walls, immediately being seen. The Saltkrigere almost immediately began to retreat so they could recalibrate with their presence being expected. The Ravahinasi refused to let them leave so easily though, setting fire to the tree line, igniting all of the peat at once, resulting in an explosion akin to a bomb that quickly went out. While only 15% of the assaulting forces died, the display was spectacular and they would continue to face losses after being followed.   The Strand-Bloods would proceed to hang the bodies they collected, hollowing and displaying them in the same fashion as krimits.
