The first sightings of the Kaban by the Saltkrigere pioneers after their initial conflict.

After the Saltkrigere had been released from imprisonment (one in which they were quite well taken care of after their origin was revealed), they set out to find the Strand-Bloods, being told the direction of Ravahinas by the Tara-Jhen. The lizardfolk made clear that they had no direct intentions of attacking the Naga-Tel or Strand-Bloods, so long as they continued to mind their own business. However, as the cult had much time to adapt to the conditions of the marsh, the Saltkrigere knew they had no chance of surviving in open warfare. With native allies in the Naga-Tel as well? surviving a battle of that kind was impossible.   With whatever provisions they had, the soldiers made way northeast to find Ravahinas. It was a tribulation avoiding any krimit territory, and they even managed to find a lonely Kaban tribe. One soldier, a young and relatively new member, wrote that he saw the intelligence in their eyes immediately upon noticing them. With that, a twisted cruelty that one may find deep in the hearts of any forsaken folk. this soldier had seen quite clearly what these beasts looked like before, and easily recognized how the marshes had contorted their kind into beasts of survival and vengeance.   The soldier wrote that the single member that they saw waddling in the woods looked back at them with an inhuman grin after they had followed it for half an hour. After that, several of the beasts lunged from the water, pulling the soldiers out of their rafts and drowning them or otherwise brutalizing them. The soldiers managed to escape, bringing the conflict onto land. The hatred in the Kaban prevented them from ceasing battle, even if it would clearly result in loss. The turtlefolk followed them onto land, eventually to be slaughtered.   When the individual that seemed to be the ringleader was turned on his back and near execution, it seemed to speak in spitting curses and promises, before it fell into a series of laughs. Though the executed the beast, they noted its curses.   The soldiers quickly realized their mistake in slaughtering the large turtles from before. They had thought the land to be uninhabited by intelligent life until now, but they were beginning to realize that they came to a land that was fully claimed. With that claim, survival was not guaranteed in Trinen. The soldier mentioned prior, however, thought that these ideas were just paranoia brought on from the turtle's curses.   History now knows this group of Kaban as the Betema tribe.
