The History of Istralar so far

Istralar is a living world with thousands of years of history, and it would do a disservice to the multitude of cultures to distill them down to their basics.   What shall be written instead is a reminder of what once was. The world was not always the magical, damaged place it is today. Prior to the First Divine War, the gods interfered with mortal affairs in person; it was this war's finale that put an end to that and created the plethora of divine mages upon Istralar to this day. This was also the advent of Champions.   When arcane magic was introduced to the world, it caused the Second Divine War, where gods worked through Champions to reign havoc. This culminated in the Arcane Compromise, and subsequently the Worldrend which both ruined civilisations and began the current era - the Era of the Arcane.

Current Species & Cultures

Istralar is inhabited by countless species, much like Earth is. Humans, orcs, and halflings are some of the primary dominant species that are native to the planet, with humans retaining a strong grasp on their homelands.   Elves and gnomes are both species that sought refuge on Istralar from afar, each taking entirely different approaches to their settlement of the planet in the past: gnomes sought to blend in, and elves looked to conquer. This was in the ancient past, however, much like how the separation of drow from elves predates the Worldrend.   Dwarves are also not technically native to Istralar, having been created by a deity for the purpose of protection and defence. They are not alone in this role, with others having also been created and species like aasimar coming about by outsider interference.

Needs & Relations

The needs of each nation and their people are defined in detail on each nation's page, as well as on each species'. But overall, Istralar is in dire need of stability. The world has begun to fail due to the extent of the damage that was dealt over the two divine wars and the subsequent Worldrend, and the interference of the Shards of the Void has begun to cause those wounds to fester.   The world now looks to its Champions in plea, its Avatars desperate.
