Sinaske

The Curious Eclipse; The Moonshade

If we do not venture into the unknown, how are we ever to understand it?
— tenets of Sinaske
Sinaske, the Curious Eclipse, is a true god supposedly born from the fabric of the night sky prior to Istralar's birth. He is one of the Draconic Pantheon along with his sister, Lutusi the Sunglorious.   He is a deity of the night sky and all that lies within its depths, out to the furthest depths of space. He is also, too, a deity of exploration and travel, fixated on finding the unknown and learning what hangs in those most mysterious depths. His divine realm, the Dragonstar, lies scattered somewhere in the tapestry of night, shining as bright as an actual star. His servitors are the star's main residence; Sinaske himself is rarely found at home, instead preferring to wander the skies and watch mortal life at play.   Sinaske is strongly associated with the short-period comet named for him, Sinaske's Comet, that he supposedly rides. Even if the suggestion of his apparent vehicle is incorrect in the modern day, draconic claims mark the comet's passing as a common way their deity would sweep over the world to greet them in the depths of night.

Dogma

Celebrate your travels; you grow with every step.
— tenets of Sinaske
Sinaske is as vibrant and wild as one might feasibly expect of a draconic deity of the most ancient depths of space and the indomitable pursuit of exploration. He shares this mysterious, frenetic quality with his divine servitors, and much makes its way into his followers through their imitation of his rites.   Followers of the Curious Eclipse are encouraged to explore their world and far beyond it, to travel into the skies above, to watch mortal life take shape, and to celebrate the newness they find. Even those without magic are encouraged down this path of exploration and learning.   Sinaske has thus become a primary deity for those focused on astronomy and science as his following has expanded, and is often prayed to in hopes that the dragon's curiosity for their findings will aid their experiments.

History

We cannot be alone in this cold world - the stars themselves are watching.
— tenets of Sinaske
Sinaske, like all of his pantheon, was once one of Istralar's most major deities and served as a patron of the night sky and of exploration to any mortal or draconic life across Istralar's surface.
He largely withdrew his presence from Istralar after the Shattering of Skies, and ceased responding to many prayers after the Second Divine War, leading to fears that the war had shattered the pantheon.   It would not be an unfounded fear; one draconic deity was lost during the former war, and at least one member of the pantheon did indeed not return after the latter conflict.   More on this has been learnt in modern times, as the Champions of the Lost Ones have come to suspect that whilst the majority of draconic deities survived the War of the Arcane, the missing member was warped into a Shard. Specifically, the Spiritblade.   In recent milennia, all members of the draconic pantheon have again taken up their deific posts, unforgotten by their draconic followers for all this time. Some, like Sinaske, were never fully silent - indeed, he did still respond to some prayer, and his comet was still seen every fifty years with its accompanying annual meteor shower.

It is only post-Worldrend, however, that the entire pantheon has properly reawoken to act once more as deities to dragonkind and to any mortals that would seek them out.

Appearance

Sinaske's Apparition by Hanhula (via Midjourney)
The darkness is deep, but it is lit by the light of millions of stars.
— tenets of Sinaske
As with many gods, Sinaske's appearance is portrayed slightly differently from one depiction to the next. In many depictions, he is a much larger lunar dragon with resplendent star-draped wings. Some depictions depart from this in favour of showing the draconic god as an incorporeal spirit made of moonlight, or as Sinaske's Comet itself.   In his actual appearances, Sinaske generally maintains the appearance of a lunar dragon. He is known to masquerade as a normal lunar dragon (or even a dragon of other species) when interacting with mortals, only taking to his true size and form when well away from the mortal plane.

Servitors

Sinaske, unlike many other deities, does not choose to retain specific divine servitors. Instead, all who wish to serve him are welcomed into his lunar realm, meaning he is well-served by a mixture of planar dragons, angels, azata, and other typically chaotic-aligned outsiders alongside his lunar dragons.

Unique Servants

Sinaske's servants vary, and some possess unique characteristics that have seen them awarded direct power from Sinaske himself.
The Dark Crescent
Sinaske's herald, the Dark Crescent, is a lunar dragon that often takes the form of a knight in black armour, emblazoned with a white moon.   They are taller than most humans, still, and carry a greatsword made from starlight itself. They are known for their curious manner, foul speech, and frequent revelry as much as they are their prowess on the battlefield.

So reach for the lights strewn across the velvet sky, and learn for yourselves what lies beyond them!
— tenets of Sinaske

The Twins by Hanhula (via Midjourney)
Aphelia and Perihelios
Twin stars, twin flames, twin hearts.
— the twins
The lunar twins of Aphelia and Perihelios are twin azatas that like to race each other through the skies of mortal planets, often in the shape of comets.   They are especially renowned for racing eachother across busy mortal areas, often disrupting ongoing fights, conversations, or plans with their laughter.   It is said that one of the twins is actually a follower of Lutusi, but nobody can ever tell which save for the gods and twins themselves. Whenever one starts to draw suspicion, the other will inevitably perform a sun-related act to draw it back to themselves.

Astraletta
The universe's song; a lost angel, seeking solace in the familiar.
The operatic Astraletta is an angel that fell in love with a lunar dragon long ago. Though her love has since departed and joined her in Sinaske's service, she works alone as a soloist and seeks to spread song throughout the universe on dragonback.   She particularly loves to guide Songbound to interesting targets, and may sometimes pretend to be one. She's also known for appearing amongst mortals to serve as a teacher and inspiration.   Some suspect that the Dark Crescent is Astraletta's lover, but there is no evidence to prove the connection. She was additionally once a former servitor of another deity: she fled to Sinaske's shelter when her deity was slain.

Deific Obedience

Stand under the open sky (preferably at night), close your eyes, and wander around until you collide with something.   When you do, celebrate what you have found. Gain a +1 luck bonus on initiative checks and a +2 sacred bonus on Survival checks to find your way.
Evangelist
  1. Lunar Envoy
Starsight 3/day, Hideous Laughter 2/day, Deeper Darkness 1/day
  2. Stars in the Dark
Once per day as a standard action, you can summon a young lunar dragon. You gain telepathy with the dragon to a range of 50 feet.   The dragon will try to follow most commands for 1 minute for every Hit Die you possess before vanishing back to the night skies.   The dragon can choose what commands to follow, and may attack you or even summon backup if commanded to do particularly evil actions.
  3. Moonlit Wanderer
You gain darkvision with a range of 60 feet. If you already have darkvision with a range of 60 feet or greater, the range of your darkvision instead increases by 10 feet.   This extension applies only to natural, permanent darkvision, not to darkvision that is granted by spells or other effects.   In addition, while you stand in starlight the range of your spells (other than spells with the range of “personal” or “touch”) increases as though your caster level were 1 level higher.

Fuckin' moon dragons.

Sinaske's Champion

Many deities have, as of late, chosen their Champions to carry their divine will and intervene in the matter of the Shards.   Though neither deity nor Champion openly speak of it, Sinaske has apparently made his mark as the first known draconic deity to select a Champion in these times. His Champion is Kazric Szithna, chosen after an encounter with the Spiritblade went horribly wrong for the drow.   Very little is otherwise known of the circumstances in which Kazric was made a Champion, but the experience has changed the drow's appearance greatly.

Look man, I told you: fuckin' moon dragons.
