Uzeven

Uzeven is one of the three great parts of Stildane - the other two being 'True Stildane' and Boram. For much of history, Uzeven was known as the Northern wildlands, the place beyond the Adira Mountains and the Ederstone wastes, where the map faded to blanks. Many people still believe that Uzeven is home to giants who live in the clouds and under the ground and who can forge miraculous weapons - the region has long been a place of projected fantasies by outsiders.   Uzeven as a blanket term for lands beyond Stildane and the Adiras that can sometimes include the arctic and subarctic lands of the far North and East. The only lands to actually accept the label of "Uzeven", though, are the lakelands East of the Empire of Kizen and North of the Kingdom of Verzohn. Generally speaking, these lands can be divided into 2 regions: Okitai in the North and Faylin in the South.   Faylin, despite having less harsh winters, is the younger of the two. Due to their close proximity to the Ederstone Wastes, most historical attempts at sedentary life in Faylin have failed. Add in easy access by the more infamous Kivishta groups through the wastes, and you have a tough land with a long history of war. The first rulers of Faylin were Kivish of the notorious Exalted and Truthful Paths in the 1450s ME, and they built their kingdoms on slavery and slaughter. Even after those regimes fell, Faylin spent many centuries being ruled by kingdoms that were violently xenophobic at best and outright vicious to everyone at worst. The last two centuries have been marked by great movements to change this, led by Uvaran mage-priests and popular movements. Mass slavery has finally ended in Faylin, though the land is still rough and violent in many ways.   Okitai has the worse climate but the safer lands. The first Okiten states were founded by refugees and local groups banding together after the fallout from the Mageplague and the fall of Kivish empire in the 1000s, and the kingdoms were more products of desperate cooperation than brutal top-down despotisms. While Okitai has had its tyrants, wars, conquerors, and tragedies, its kingdoms are fairly stable. The winter winds may bring terrible cold every year, but the people of Okitai are good at hunkering down together and surviving whatever crisis the Gods throw their way. Okitai is also known as the cat refuge of cats: the cats here are unusually organized, and are respected as state partners by most governments. The Cats of Okitai have their own creed, known as The Second Code, and are led by wizard-elders (known as Scrollcats by humanoids and Truestars by Cats). While their religion is unpopular with Cat Heavens, they are personally protected by a powerful ancestor known as the Far-God Brambleshanks.    Beyond Faylin and Okitai, many unincorporated lands fall under the greater definition of Uzeven. These peoples will happily trade, but seem to assume ill-intent from most armed outsiders and have been wrongfully labeled as 'violent, hidden kingdoms' - when perhaps 'wary but peaceful semi-nomadic tribes' would be a better phrasing.

Geography

The Uzeven lakelands are 1032 miles across and 808 miles wide. 5 large lakes and 2 rivers make up the bulk of Faylin, while Okitai claims 6 lakes and 1 river to its name. Faylin is an extremely flat land of temperate forests and fertile grasslands. Okitai is slightly hillier and more densely forested. Separating Okitai and Faylin from the Kizen-orbiter states of Sevet are the Western Savilog mountains. To the Southeast and South are the Adira Mountains  Ederstone-tainted offshoots of the Adiras known as the Nightmare Peaks of Rurateg make up the Southern boundaries of greater Faylin, as well as the boundary between Faylin and the rocky region of Verzohn (to the direct South).   The broader "wilds" East and North of Faylin and Okitai are about 2000 miles by 900 miles across. These include cold steppes, a frozen desert, and a lot of taiga. A massive lake known as the Azingar crosses much of this taiga, and remains largely unexplored.

Fauna & Flora

Bears, beavers, snow leopards, tigers, lynxes, musk ox, wolves, moose, wolverines, deer, raccoon-dogs, and caribou can all be found across Uzeven. Minks and ferrets are also quite common, and are farmed for their furs in certain parts of the lakelands. The lake geese of Uzeven are known to reach incredible sizes and levels of aggression, and are a major source of food and minor injuries. A small population of freshwater-semi arctic whales live in the great Azingar lake as well.   According to some legends, remarkably intelligent and social mammoth-like creatures live in the isolated corners of Uzeven. It is unknown if these are just legends or if another god-made cryptid hides in the corners of the world.
