Adira Mountains

The Wall of the World some have called it. The impossibly tall, impossibly wide mountain range at the heart of the Northeastern landmass, the division between Suneka, Stildane, and Inahng. These are the Adiras.   The massive snow-topped peaks of the Adiras may seem inhospitable, but they are home to a sizeable population of Prisms, Half Prisms, Humans, and Kobolds. What was once imagined by lowlanders as a lifeless region of ice and stone has flourished into a vibrant land of many realms. Not all of the Adiras are urbanized or densely populated, and many Adiran peoples keep to their traditional ways of life out of the reach of imperial power, but the Adiran heartland has been effectively terraformed for imperial exploitation by millennia of Calazan rule.   There are numerous subregions of the Adiras, but only a few are well-mapped, colonized, and understood:
  • Athasha, land of the East and Home of Jade Atharzen, known for its massive roadways and mixed populations. Huge mountain ranges cut up Athasha, but huge hilly lowlands in its center allow for human-dryad-style towns and settlement. Athasha is the region from which Inahng's great rivers flow
  • Atharat, is often considered West Athasha but is geographically and culturally distinct. Rather than a few concentrated ranges of particularly huge peaks, Atharat is almost entirely jagged peaks with unusually low mountain valleys throughout. While bordering both Suneka and Stildane, Atharat's large Western mountain range makes it a difficult climb for many monsters and invaders.
  • Sikrek, the South-Central land between Athasha and Suneka, is notable for its truly massive valley. While the Sikrek valley is still comparatively high elevation, its flatlands and lakes have led to an unusually high human and Dryad population.
  • Sonisha, the Adiran highlands North of Athasha, is ridiculously elevated and absolutely hellish to traverse. Most life here is semi-subterranean, with great Prism cave-cities.
  • Varasa, to the West of Sonisha, is comparatively much smaller mountains with fairly large plateaus and valleys. Known as the borderlands with Stildane, the Varasan flatlands have their fair share of migrated monsters that make life less habitable.
  • Kidejah, a region North of Athasha and East of Sonisha, known for its frigid slopes and salt-flat valleys.
  • Karama, an isolated area of mountainous lowlands walled off on all sides by larger mountains. Known for its seclusion and embrace of far-Northern mountain Prism culture
  • Merasa, a region to the far South that has little in the way of large states or road networks, but is very well populated. Home to a disparate group of Kobolds and exiles from across Suneka and Inahng, Merasa is a very diverse and cosmopolitan region.

Geography

The Adiras are 885 miles by 1500 miles, with an average peak height of 20,000 feet. The tallest of these mountains, Arzandri in the realm of Sonisha, is over 30,000 feet tall.

Fauna & Flora

Yaks, ibexes, eagles, dholes, musk deer, mountain lions, llamas, lynxes, bears, markhor, and red pandas can all be found in the Adiras. Many unique subspecies live in the isolated mountain valleys as well.

Natural Resources

The Adiras are rich in salt, coal, metals, and Prism-feed minerals. Massive amounts of iron, gold, and other precious metals also sit unexploited across the Adiras.
