Republic Of Adreal (Ad Reel)

The Republic Of Adreal is a democratic republic on the continent of Getrea. The Republic was the first fully industrialized nation on Ghala, and as such it enjoys a technological edge over most of the world. The nation's capital is the city of Arrhus located along the Adreal river, and it's largest city is Farbanti located on the coast of the Sedna Ocean. The Republic has a population of 460 million people with 60% of the population being Human.

Structure

Political leaders of the Republic are elected by the populace during elections that take place every 10 years. The President is the head of state, with the Vice President as a second in command.   While the President may be the head of state, they don't have absolute power and authority. Much of the nation's law and decisions are made or authorized by a Congress of 50 members. Though in extreme circumstances a President may bypass congress to expedite legislature that may need to be passed before congress can view and approve it.   Should Congress decide that a President has overstepped their bounds, they can vote to impeach them.

Culture

Adrelli culture is largely egalitarian with much emphasis placed on ensuring that your actions do not impede on the rights of others to live their lives. As such, Adrelli society is fairly progressive in nature.   Thanks to advances in recording and broadcasting film, television, and radio have become very popular in the Republic and have influenced modern Adrelli culture.

Public Agenda

The agenda of the Rupublic is to bring deocratic and egalitarian values to other nations either by influnce or fore. Though the Republic is also known for it's imperialistic tendencies and has been accused by some other nations of using heavy handed tactics to achieve their goals.

History

The history of Adreal can be traced to nearly 15,000 years ago, when humanity was scattered across Iyass as numerous tribes and city states. A malicious fae named Grecii sowed distrust and hatred between the other humanoid races and humans of Iyass by fabricating events and spreading anti human propaganda over the course of sevral thousand years. This culminated with the Elven Kingdom being the first entity to declate total war on humanity as a whole.   Elven forces marched across Iyass, slaughtering any humans they came across. Other humanoid races added to the war effort as well. Orcs committed forces to act as cannon fodder, dwarves produced weapons and armor to use in the War Against Humanity, tieflings would often lead human refugees astray before either killing them in remote areas or selling them to the elves as slaves, the halflings would sell infortmation regarding the positions of human military units, refugee movement, and potential weak points in defences, and the elves lead the charge by coordinating most battles and commting their armies to engage human forces wherever possible.   Once the human populace had been thoroughly culled, the elves wised to take the survivors as slaves. The other races complied and began to capture humans wherever possible, selling them to the elves at a profitable markup.     After nearly 2 centuries of constant fighting the last major human military stronghold, Fort Vaux, fell after a 125 day seige. With the last remnants of human military presence eradicated, the elves shifted eastward to the last human controlled city; Caracamur. Elven forces marched into Caracamur unoppossed and spent the next week butchering the city's population before leaving it as a ruined husk.   By the end of the War Against Humanity, 85% of all humans alive were killed. Though the exact number is not known as census records were not as detailed during wartime, it is estimated that 225 million humans perished during the war's duration. At war's end, only 15,000 humans were left alive.   The few humans who survived the war were enslaved by their new elven overlords. One thousand years later, a large percentage of the elven population of Iyass fled across the Sedna Ocean to Getrea in hopes of escaping the First Draconic Crusade. Those who fled brought their human slaves with them, resulting in all of humanity being re-located to Getrea

Liberation and Independence

After their re location, most of humanity remained enslaved for the next 2,000 years. During a war with the Aarakocra, the elves began to loose ground after a failed invasion. During an aarakocra counter offensive a slave camp was discovered. The aaracokra were so apalled by the conditions they found in the camp that the nature of the war had changed overnight. It was no longer simply about eliminating a hostile army, rather it was now about liberating an oppressed and previously unknown species.   Aarakocra general Kra're ordered his fighters to scour Elven lands and liberate any humans they found. This continued until an armistice was singed and the 30,000 humans they liberated were allowed to live under the care of the aarakocra.   After spending nearly two centuries under arakocra rule, many humans desired independence. Though they still viewed the aarakocra with reverence, humanity was ready to move on. After much deliberation, the aaracokra agreed that humans should be granted independence if they so wish. With aarcokra approval, 85,000 humans left their benefactors. They settled down in the forests along the Adreal River. For the first time in thousands of years, humanity was living by it's own rules.

The First Adrelli-Dominion War

After learning of human independence, the elves where furious. They wanted their property back, and were willing to fight for it. less than a decade after gaining independence, the Elven Dominion declared war on the newly founded Kingdom Of Adreal. Early on in the fighting, it became apparent that humans had superior weapons compared to the elves. Elven forces where lightly armed and armored, and mainly used higly ornate weapons that cut corners when it came to durability. Some of the blades wielded by elven forces were said to have been forged from pig iron and would break during combat. Humans, on the other hand, utilized hardend steel weapons, as well as bows with longer range than their elven counterparts. As a result of this, elven forces began to rely heavily on magic to level the playing field. As soon as the aarakocra caught wind of what was happening, they immediately mobilized to help the humans defend their new homeland. The deciding battle of the war was the Siege of Stafalgel. The siege lasted 6 weeks, and was ended when a powerful hurricane made landfall over the city. Elven, human, and aarakocra alike were battered by strong winds that destroyed structures, and torrential rain that flooded the battlefield. With the effort to retake humanity having failed, the elves conceded and singed a peace treaty. [

Centuries Of Warfare

Over thre next several centuries, the Kingdom Of Adreal and the Elven Dominion would clash on a regular basis, often with aarackocra from the Theocracy Of Esora joining to aid humanity.   However, the elves were not the only threat humanity faced.   To the south of thenewly founded Kingdom Of Adreal was a multitude of lazardfolk and Snakefolk tribes and clans. Seeing the humans as little more than "weak squishy preythings", many of teh southern tribes would make incursions into Adreal itself to raid towns for loot and prey. Most notable of these incursions was when a warlord from the Ssthra Tribes organized a massive army and marched directly for Arrhus. The snakefolk army devoured and pillaged their way to the capital city, where the Adrelli army waited for them with muskets at the ready. The battle was a lopsided affair, with snakefolk rushing towards human defences onyl to be cut down by volley after volley of gunfire. The Battle Of Arrhus was the first major engagement in which firearms were used, and their effectiveness was now very apparent. After this battle, the Adrelli army began to fully phase out thier swords and crossbows for muskets and cannons.   As the Kingom Of Adreal expanded westward their territory began to cross over that of the Vulpis Sovereignty, bringin the two nations to conflict. Unlike wars with the elves or reptilian clans, wars with the Vulpine while causing high casulties for both side militarily, would cause very few if any civilian losses. This was due to to the vulpine belief that a conquerd populace is worth more alive than dead. To commit atrocities is to waste resources that could otherwise be spent on the battlefield. Due to this mutual understanding, civilians on both sides were seldom targeted during these conflicts.  

An Unorthodox Military

The Kingdom Of Adreal's military was famous for being an entity separate from the crown. While they had to take orders from the king or queen, they were allowed to organize or conduct themselves in any way they saw fit, provided it didn't conflict with the Crown's directives. This approach was taken so that commanders could make changes as needed on an evolving battlefield without having to wait for authorization from a member of the Royal Court.   As a result of this unique approach to leadership, the Adrelli military was infamous for it's proficiency with unconventional warfare, as well as it's ability to quickly adopt and use new weapons or tactics. This approach was highly both successful on the battlefield and at home, though as time went on it caused tensions between the Crown and the military to grow as the Crown sought to exert more direct control over them.

The Revolution

The Kingdom of Adreal had reached a crossroads. The Adrelli military was a very egalitarian organization. People of all races, genders, and identities were accepted. Even those weren't physically fit for combat were brought in for non combat roles. The Royal government had grown Leary of the military's growing influence over the populace, and tried to curtail their power.   The Royals began cracking down on “extremist” movements like women's suffrage and species rights groups. Seeing the Royal's growing corruption, the military decided to take matters into thier own hands. Adrelli armed forces marched into Arrhus and stormed the Royal palace. Elsewhere, more royal strongholds where captured or besieged. The King's home at Hardingham Keep was stormed and, after heavy fighting, taken within 2 days. The King and Queen were publicly executed by General James Clovis for treason. The prince committed suicide before the military could reach him.   With the Royals deposed, the military assumed control of the government and, for the first time in Getrean history, held public elections to decide who the new “president” would be. The public voted in favor for James Clovis, the general who staged and lead the revolution. This marked the creation of the world's first democracy. The Kingom of Adreal was now the Republic Of Adreal.   The aarakocra followed in the humans footsteps and did away with the theocratic monarchy of old in favor of a democratic system, forming the Democratic Theocracy Of Esora  

Operation Mamba

Once stability in Adreal was restored, President Clovis was eager to deal with his nation's largest threat and rival: the Elven Dominion. He and the generals of the Republican Army drew up plans to invade and annex the territory controlled by the Dominion. After 2 years of planning and preperations, his army was ready.   The invasion, codenamed Operation Mamba, had commenced. It was the first time modern weapons and tactics were used in a large scale war. Long range artillery pounded Elven lines while infantry carrying cartridge fed rifles supported by rudimentary tanks rushed across the countryside at blistering speeds. After just a month of fighting, the Republicn army had reached and surrounded the Dominion capital city of Silveria.   The Battle Of Silveria lasted 4 weeks, and in the end Republican Forces flew the Adrelli flag over the Royal Palace in Silveria.   Operation Mamba brought an end to millenia of warfare and between humanity and elvenkind to an end. The city, people and territories of the Elven Dominion became part of the Republic Of Adreal.   The war also proved the effectiveness of modern weapons and tactics on a grand scale. Armies across Getrea took note of how human tactics and began adopting similar methods of waging war.  

Myrra

As the Adrelli Revolution was taking place, deep in the Tangaroa Ocean the Sharkin tribes had united and looked to expand their territory to land based colonies. The sharkin took over the sparsly populated small continent of Myrra, taking over the lizardfolk towns as well as the Adrelli colony of Abylora. After taking over Myrra, the sharkin looked east, towards Getrea.   By this point, it had been a year since Operation Mamba. The Republicans were unaware of Abylora's fate, or of the impending Sharkin invasion.   On a misty April morning, the sharkin invasion of Getrea had begun. Sarkin warriors landed on the beaches of the Republican cities of Tharros and Nimbassa. Tharros and Nimbassa had no real military presence and fell within a day. The Republican army mobilized as quickly as they could to push back the sharkin invaders, and managed to hold them off at a defensive line formed between the cities of Anwick and Dubuqe. The populations of the towns and cities that were occupied were subjected to horrific atrocites at the hands of the sharkin. Civilians in occupied areas were often tourtured and eaten by sharkin warriors. Humanoid children in particular were often singled out due to their "delictable taste and palpable misery".   After 3 months of bloody fighting, sharkin warlord Cregrowr personally led a massive charge of nearly 6,000 warriors against the Republican defenses at Dubuque. The charge failed miserably, and resulted in the death of Cregrowr and 5,800 of those who joined the attack. The Republicans exploited the disasterous attack and pushed forward on all fronts, pushing the now leaderless sharkin forces back to the sea.   With Nimbassa and Tharros now liberated, the Rebublican public wanted revenge. And they weren't alone. The aarakocra, who had helped the Republican defense, were disgusted by the atrocities of the sharkin and wanted to help punish those responsible. And the lizardfolk Clan Garvug Garvug had taken heavy losses repelling the sharkin invasion from their lands in southern Getrea. as such, Clan Garvug was eager to take the fight to the sharkin.   With a new coalition formed, the Republic and it's allies set sail for Myrra with the intension of taking the continent from the sharkin and avenging those killed by the invaders.   The invasion of Myrra was a 3 pronged offensive; the aarakocra attacked from the north, the Republic attacked from the east and Clan Garvug attacked from the west. After landing, the Republicans made considerable progress and had taken nearly 20% of the continent while Garvug and the aarakocra had considerably slower advances. The sharkin realized that frontal attacks wouldn't work, especially against the Republicans. As such, they dramaticly changed their tactics.   Using Myrra's jungles and intricate cave systems to their advantage, the sharkin began to employ guerilla tactics to great succes. With this change in tactics, the sharkin managed to prevent signifigant progress for almot 3 years.   After 3 years of fighting, the aarakocra were forced to pull out of Myrra to deal with a Vulpine invasion of their homeland, and Garvug was loosing manpower. The republicans, however, had a trump card.   A recently devolped chemical weapon known as Aroura Gas was shipped to Myrra. The Republicans made use of the gas during the Battle Of Trinea to deadly effect. Nearly all of the sharkin exposed to the gas were killed quickly, and it's long lasting effects prevented them from returning to a previously held position. After the success at Trinea, the Republicans began using Aroura Gas heavily to root out or exterminate sharkin defenders and towns.   After 6 more months of fighting, the sharkin were completley driven off of Myrra. However, the extensive use of Aroura Gas caused the collapse of the ecology of Myrr and rendered almost all of the continent's land permenantly soured.   Nearly 80 years later, Myrra remains a barren, lifeless wateland that is so toxic that most races cannot come within 30 miles of the continent without a full hazmat gear.   The sharkin population was decimated by the war. It's estimated that 70% of the sharkin population was killed during the war.  

The Fourth Draconic Crusade

When a blue dragoness named Gatha took the throne of the Draconic Imperium and declared that a new crusade would take place, Republican president Madison Blair ordered a mass mobilization to Iyass in hopes of stopping the impending Crusade. The president encouraged nations and races around the world to put aside their diffrences and band together to "hold back the impending storm". Under Republican leadership, a multinational coalition was founded with the goal of repelling the Crusade. Those who joined the coalition included the Democratic Theocracy Of Esora, the Vulpis Union, Clan Garvug, the Ssthra Tribes, the Tiefling Hegemony, and the Venmaya Trade Guild.   The Republicans arrived first, engaging the Imperial army at Kolos. The Republicans and coalition duked it out with the Imperium, stalling their progress and inflicting heavy losses.   After 6 years of fighting, the Republicans led by general Omar Jurai went on the offensive. The offensive ended in disater, with a large typhoon severly disrupting the Republics ability to advance. General Raathnar of the Imperial army took advantage of this and launched a counter offensive. The Imperial counter offensive blindsided the Republicans and they fell back to Pesidia. During the ensuing battle General Raathnar confronted General Jurai and challenged him to a duel. Jurai accepted the challenge and engaged Raathnar in one on one a swordfight. Raathnar won the fight by decapitating Jurai with his special made longsword   With Jurai's death, John Bishop took command of the Repiblican army. Bishop ordered that all republican and coalition forces fall back to Whitesburg, where a defensive line could be established.   The Imperial army rapidly advanced, taking over Venmaya and Ducatel.In an attempt to stop or delay the Imperial advace, the Republican army detonated seven high yeild nuclear bombs in an area between Whitesburg and Venmaya. The Nuclear strike resulted in massive casulties for the Imperial army as well as the death of three elder dragons. This sudden loss shocked the Imperial army, forcing them to stop for 8 months while they recouperated their losses and drew up new plans.   As the Imperials were licking their wounds, the Republicans and coalition transformed Whitesburg into a fortress. Walls and intricate trenchlines were built all around the city, and the farmland to the south was littered with landmines and razor wire. Most of the city's residents were evacuated and it's port was closed to all but military traffic. An airsrip was constructed north of the city to launch airplanes and recive cargo from planes and airships.   When the Imperials restarted their offensive and approached Whitesburg they found themsilves attacking a neigh impregnable fortress.   After 20 years of stalemate, the Battle Of Whitesburg continues.

Military

The Repulican Armed Forces is one of Ghala's largest and most powerful military organizations. The Republican Armed Forces centers around 3 seperate branches that work in tandem with each other to achieve victory   The Republican Army is the primary ground force of the Republic. It makes use of advanced weapons, vehicles and tactics to dominate the battlefields of Ghala.   The Republican Navy is the largest navy on Ghala and serves as the backbone for the Republic's force projection capabilities. Dreadnoughts, battleships, aircraft carriers, cruisers and destroyers make up most of the Republic's naval power.   The Republican Air Force is dedicated to providing support for the army and navy, as well as securing the airspace above an operating area.   Across all branches, the Republic has around 15 million active service members

Technological Level

The technological level of the Republic is comparable to 1950s America or Western Europe. Though some execptions do exist, for example rudimentary computers are used by corporations, the military and the government to catogorize information and run machines more efficiently.

Agriculture & Industry

The Republic is famous for it's industrial prowess. Factories all across Adreal produce evreything from weapons to toys on a truly massive scale.   The central plains of the nation are mostly farmland, and produce most of the crops and livestock on Getrea. Selective breeding have made the crops and livestock of Adrelli farms produce higher than average food output.

Trade & Transport

The Republic is connected via a system of paved highways and roads. The Adrelli highway system streches from coast, and even cross the borders of the Vulpis Union and Esora.   The streches of highway in nations other than Adreal itself were built by Adrelli workers and paid for in large part by the nation that the highway passes through. This daunting undertaking was done to facilitate easy trade between the nations.   With air travel becoming more common and viable, most major Republican cities have an airport.

Strong allies

The Republic Of Adreal and the Democratic Theocracy Of Esora have a long history of helping the other out in times of need. When Adreal transitioned from a monarchy to a democratic republic, Esora followed soon after to be more like their human compatriots.   The Republic views Esora as blood brothers, but sees the theocratic nature of it's government as outdated.   Esora views the Republic with reverance, though it has some reservations about the Repulic's nuclear and chemical weapon programs.   The two nations are the founding members of the Iyass Defensive Coalition and fight side by side to bring an end to the Fourth Draconic Crusade.

Allies

The Republic Of Adreal and Clan Garvug have had a mostly hostile past. It was only within the last century and the radical chages brought about by Warlord Arnha that the two managed to find common ground.   Though the two have completly diffrent governing systems and philosophies, the two have managed to forge a positive relationship through trade. The Republic has given medicine, building materials and even weapons in exchange for raw materials, acess to Garvug's many ancient ruins and protection from other tribes.   The Republic veiws Garvug as a troubled organization that is trying it's best to right the wrongs of it's past, though it still has alot of work to do.   Clan Garvug views the Republic as a valuble asset that can help them evolve into a proper civilization as well as take care of their rivals.   The two nations are part of the Iyass Defensive Coalition and are working together to stop the Draconic Imperium.

Non-aggression pact

The Vulpis Union and Republic Of Adreal have waged war on one another many times. Though none of these wars were ever conclusive, they often resulted in hundreds of thousands of deaths.   The Republic views the Union with distrust and contempt due to their lengthy history of conflict as well as the brutal regime that rules the nation.   The Union views the Republic as a proper rival who is a target of expansion, though they belive that the democratic system ruling the nation is inefficent and soft willed.   Both nations are in the Iyass Defensive Coalition, which has caused both nations to put aside their diffrences to fight a greater threat. This alliance is temporary, however, and once the Crusade is over it is likley that the two will return to hostilities.

Non-aggression pact

The Republic and the Hegemony have major disagreements in reagards to politics and societal ethics. However, the two have mostly put aside their diffrences to fight back the impending threat of the Draconic Imperium.   The Republic views the Hegemony as a morally and politically rotten nation that must undergo major reforms for it to be considerd anything but a stain on the civilized world.   The Hegemony views the Republic as a nation of weak willed fools with child like ideals on how the world works.   The two nations are part of the Iyass Defensive Coalition and work together to stop the Draconic Imperium. However, given persisting tensions it is likely that once the Imperium is dealt with the two nations may engage in hostilities.

Non-aggression pact

The Republic Of Adreal and the Ssthra Tribes have cold relations. Ssthra is notorious for it's laws that allow humans to be treated no different from prey animals due to the snakefolk majority seeing human flesh as a delicacy. Due to this culturally ingrained disregard of human life, wars between Ssthra and the Republic were common.   The Republic views Ssthra as dangerous uncaring predators who seek only to devour innocent people.   The Ssthra view the Republic as little more than "that place delicous food comes from".   The two nations are members of the Iyass Defensive Coalition. The Ssthra Tribes joined the coalition to help prevent the Draconinc Imperium from taking over Ghala. Though there have been some reports of infighting among Ssthra and Republican soldiers. It is likely that the Ssthra tribes will be kicked out of the coalition due to their actions with Republican soldiers.

Hostile

The Elven Kingdom views the Republic Of Adreal as a nation of degeneracy and filth. The Republic's democratic nature, heavy industrialization, mixed race demographics, and human dominated leadership is incogitable and disgusting.   To the Republic the Elven Kingdom represents a clear and present threat to global security. Were it not for current circumstances, the Republic would consider a military solution to deal with the threat the Elven Kingdom poses.   As it stands, both nations are just one diplomatic incident away from total war.

Open warfare

The Republic Of Adreal has been at the forefront of the war against the Draconic Imperium. As such, both nations are extremely hostile towards one another and will likely accept nothing short of the complete destruction of the other.   The Republic sees the Imperium as a threat to all life of Ghala and is willing to take dramatic action to stop the Imperium's advance.   The Imperium sees the Republic as insolant children who must be exterminated if the future of draconic races is to be secured.   The two nations are in a state of total war, with both of them dedicating all of their resources to destroy the other.
