Battle Of Persidia
The Battle Of Persidia was a 15 day long engagement between the Republic Of Adreal and Draconic Imperium over the city of Persidia in the Venmaya Trade Guild. The battle ended with a Republican defeat and the death of general Omar Jurai.
The Conflict
Prelude
As the Imperial army ravaged southern Iyass, the Republian army sought to hold them off at the city of Persidia. Evacuations of the city's resident's began, but was slow due to the influx of refugees from the south clogging roads. The Republicans began digging in as the Guild sent mercenaries to help shore up the defenses and process refugees. However, the Imperial army arrived sooner than expected and the city's defenses were incomplete for the battle to come.
Battlefield
As the Imperial Army aproached, the Republican's lashed out with artillery and airstrikes in hopes of slowing the advance. These attacks caused quite a bit of damage to the Imperial army and caused some confusion within Imperial lines. This delayed the invasion by 24 hours as the Imperial army regrouped and pressed forward through intense shellfire and bombing.
When they arrived at the city, brutal street to street fighting ensued as the two forces clashed. Many civilians were still in the city and were killed in the crossfire.
On the 13th day, a massive Imperial assault spearheaded by an elder dragon named Jarix and General Raathnar broke through Republican defenses and made it all the way to the main FOB in the city center. There, General Jurai came out of his field tent to fight alongside his troops. As the battle at the FOB continued, Raathnar and Jurai came face to face. Raathnar challenged Jurai to a one on one duel, which Jurai accepted by casting his Manitou aside and drawing his Katana.
The duel between the generals lasted 15 minutes, with Jurai often outmanuvering Raathnar. However, Raathnar managed to land a devastating strike with his Longsword. The strike decapitated Jurai.
With the general dead, Republican forces were in disarray. Liutenant General John Bishop took charge 6 hours after Jurai's death, and ordered a full on retreat from Persidia.
Conditions
The urban envoirnment of Persidia caused fighting to be a street by street, house to house affair. Republican soldiers would often dig thier heels in at buildings, especially ones with multiple floors.
In one notable instance, a group of 12 Republicans held out for 3 days in a 4 story apartment building. They set traps in many rooms and harassed any Imperials who came in. On the third day, the 3 surviving soldiers set off explosives on the 1st floor of the building, causing it to cave in. The engagement at the "house of death", as it was dubbed by the Imperials, ended with 12 humans and 300 imperial soldiers dying.
Aftermath
The intensity of the battle shocked the Imperial army leadership. Though they were victorious, it came at great cost. It showed them winning the war would be very, very costly.
For the Republicans, the battle was a crushing defeat. Some senators even argued pulling out of Iyass after the loss. Ultimately, it was decided to try again at Whitesburg, as it was much more of a defensible location than Persidia was.
Persidia itself was ruined by the battle. What little was left was razed by the Imperials and the surviving residents who had not been able to get out were slaughtered.
The Imperium has cleared the land that Persidia was once on and built a new city named Cistra. This new city is used to process new thralls and conscripts. It is occasionally bombed by Republican B-202 Hussars

The Republic mobilized 743,000 soldiers to defend Persidia. This includes forces from the air force as well as an armored division that moved into the city to shore up defenses.
Casualties
The Republic lost 476,000 soldiers during the battle, as well as General Jurai.
Objectives
The Republican Army's objectives were to defened Persidia and it's population then launch a counter attack against the Imperial Army.
Strength
Before the battle, 4 million people lived in Persidia. During the battle there was 865,000 civillians in the city.
Casualties
Of the more than 865,000 civilians in the city, 234,00 were killed during the battle itself. In the aftermath over 579,000 of the survivors were killed.
Refuegees who survived the battle and it's aftermath still occasionally show up at the gates of Whitesburg. Though it is belived that most of those who were in Persidia when it fell have been killed.
