Aarakocra (Are-uh-cock-ra)

The aarakocra are a humanoid avian race hailing from the Raumoko mountains on the western continent of Getrea. Aarakocra are warm blooded creatures, and have adapted to live a multitude of climates. They are renowned for their extreme agility, dexterity, and the ability to fly semi-long distances. However, they aren't partiuraly strong, and can easily be overpowerd by most races in hand-to-hand combat.
Like other races in Ghala, the aarakocra differ from their couisins in other realms. The aarakocra of Ghala tend to be larger, live twice as long, and have a vastly different culture thant their counterparts in other worlds. Many aarakocra tend to be pious, with most indiviuals following the teachings of Duetcia, the goddes of fortune. Duetcia's teachings can be summed up easily: treat others with kindess and gerosity, and either you or a futrue incarnation of you will prosper. This mindset of "others before self" is what led to their deep kinship with humanity.
The aarakocra discoverd humanity during a war with the elves. During an aarakocra counter-offensive, they came across a large labor camp. The conditions in the camp where ablsolutly horrid. Hundreds of humans were cramped into small barracks, males were forced to work in crop fields without adequte clothes, or in camped mines using stone tools. Females were forces into prostitution, or used as "personal" slaves for their masters. The aarakocra were sickend and shocked by what they saw, and went on a campaign across elven lands to liberate as many humans as they could. After the war, they took the humans they found "under their wings", so to speak (pun kind of intended). The free humans remained with their aarakocra saviors for two centuires, before setting off to found what would be the Republic of Adreal.

Basic Information

Anatomy

Physiologically, aarakocra are bipedal, have an average height of 5'7 for males, and 5'9 for females with an average wingspan of 20 ft. Average weight is 80 to 100 LBS for both genders. Aarakocra usually have an eagle-esque apearence, though reigonal varients do exist. Those hailing from mountainous or arctic climates have an osprey-like coloration. Those in temperate climates have a bald eagle-like coloration. Those in humid areas tend to have colorful plumages and have a more parrot like apearance. They're hands have three digits and a thumb.

Genetics and Reproduction

Aarakocra mating seasons occur once a year, during which male plumage is especially striking.
Aarakocra lay eggs, which take eight months to hatch. They are incubated by females.
Aarakocra are considered mature by six years of age.

Dietary Needs and Habits

Aarakocra are omnivorous, and are known to eat fish, livestock, fruits, and grains
