Strashya Dam

The Strasyan Dam Seawall is a series of constructed locks and dams designed to keep water flowing outward from the lagoon rather than into it. It was made as part of the ongoing terraformation of Gishani's north channel into a freshwater lagoon and farming plane.

The dam was constructed by Xetto the Pugnacious and his crew of handpicked Masons, and runs for more than a kilometer over and through the coral.

The project has thus far been very successful, with the Lagoon now able to maintain a population of freshwater creatures. Unfortunately, the lower waters still have mercury, so it is ill advised to eat fish from the lagoon.

Routes of Passage

By Foot

On foot, you may walk south-to-north along the dam from the island to the coast across a series of wooden bridges just wide enough for tram tracks. These bridges are more rickety every year, and it's no longer safe to drive anything heavier than a car over them.

By Water

Boats may travel in and out of the Dam through a series of poorly maintained locks. Most of these require manual intervention atop the docks, and many have issues with the gates jamming or the fuses blowing due to the low power mode of the island.

Of Water

Water flows east-to-west from the inside of the lagoon and out into the sea. Along this route it pours out over the muddy quagmires and wetlands of Strashya's Nege Forest, depositing rich minerals from the inside of the atoll's growing basin and from the algae within it. This dense algae has already notably lightened the ocean in the region, and increased the yield of fish.

I love the idea of the dam and how it has helped turn the lagoon into freshwater. It's a shame that it doesn't seem to be all that well maintained. :(

Unfortunately, the planetary govt has arrived to federate the colonies into a singular government and Xetto's been shorted in the deal, so the whole atoll is under blockade until he capitulates to their demands. Maybe the players will help clean it up. :)

Such a cool set of architectural marvels to wind over and around and through the coral walls, all while trying to remain somehow conservation-centric and meet terraforming successes. It's a shame that the situation at hand means upkeep has fallen so far behind! Was awesome to watch the map of the whole atoll take shape over the course of the summer camp event; it looks great here and the amount of wildlife noted by survey results should make anyone happy...well, if it weren't for the poisoned fish.

Thank you so much! I wanted to make it feel plausible that these changes have shaped the land for the better. The mercury-tinted fish are inspired by a Lake I grew up near, which had warnings about eating too many fish because mercury pooled at the bottom of the lake and some of the bottom feeders sucked it up!
