Dragon Clans of Ioban

The Dragons of Eraneth follow a familial clan structure where generally the eldest Dragon of the Clan leads and rules. Some clans are rigidly hierarchal while others are loose and pay respect to their Clan leader but have little interaction with their kin beyond this. To the humanoid vassals however, the clan structure is their world. They have served the interest of their clan for many millennia, most with great devotion and admiration. Among the vassals, those chosen to bond with the Dragon, known as Kindred Vassals or Bonded Kindred speak for their dragon lords and as such make up the ruling class among the Vassal Clan members. Each clans society is turned entirely to the betterment of their Draconic lords, this most often takes the form of the vassals finding the most efficient way for them to serve their dragons. Some Dragons have spent centuries learning how their vassals think and behave, and have implemented systems to guide and nurture them into roles most suited for their talent and temperament. Others have had such wrathful vengeance upon inept and incompetent vassals, that the vassals have discerned the most expediate way to please their Draconic Lords.

Each clan is autonomous and answers to only the edicts of the Council Ary. While some more powerful clans may see themselves as the leader of their Dragon type, their influence stretches only as far as their will allows it. Powerful Red Dragon Clans often dominate their neighbors extracting tribute out of fear while Powerful Gold Dragon Clans might impose their will in similar but more subtle ways.

The Council Ary was created where each clan could have an equal voice and say in matters of Ioban and the Dragonkin of Eraneth. All disputes are intended to be brought to the council and voted upon for resolution, however the Council often was used after an incident to ensure reparation and justice was served. The council maintained a tenuous peace, as its own resources were small, it required a majority of the Clans to believe in it and follow it to maintain its power. A single clan even the most powerful could not stand up to all the clans united. Tho the council faltered many times, after each dragon war it did return stronger, this strength however was usually turned to crippling and impediment of the Chromatic Dragons, who before the great Slumber, began to see the council as nothing more then an oppressive tyrant.
