Clan Amaranthis

Clan Amaranthis is named for their Founder, the Dragoness Amaranth. She was the first to Volunteer the Mountain fortress of Clan Amaranth to serve as the central gathering point for the Council Ary. Tho this caused some strife for the Clan in the Age of Wonder as many lairs had to relocate as a result. As time progressed Amaranth was known for serving the Ary more dutifully, many times to the interest of the council over that of even their clan. Amaranthis has been dedicated to the peaceful co existence of dragon kind for several millennia tho the lofty goal has been far from achieved. Using their military might to aid the council in enforcing its will, this has put them at odds with both Metallic and Chromatic clans.

Structure

Clan Amaranthis holds a unique structure, primarily that clan operation and jurisdiction over the Ary were not vested in the same Dragon. As Amaranth had gifted much of their first city to the Council, they remained governing it, however the Council Ary specific area was not governed by the Clan Leader to avoid conflicts of interest. When a new leader is needed, the clan elders all vote among their number electing whom shall lead them moving forward.

Amaranthis Kindred Vassals generally held places of leadership as they were the direct conduits of their Dragon Lords. While not uncommon for Kindred families raised their offspring to replace them as Bonded Kindred when time claimed them, there however is no requirement for a Dragon to take a Kindred from the same lineages. Amaranthis Dragons tended to take the most skilled or able instead of familial lines, which has driven high levels of excellence among their Vassals. Halfdragons are acknowledged by their Dragon parents but do not gain special privledge or consideration, they are generally found among prominent vassal families and take their vassal families name.

With the Quieting of Heaven and the great sleep, Amaranthis was one of the first clans to react. Securing the Ary, its hatcheries, and many of the dragons in residence at the Ary until calmer heads and an understanding of what has trasnpired to arise. Several strong Families with ties to current bonded Kindred formed a Ruling Council in the power vacuum and presently operate as an Oligarchy of stability. Remaining on high military alert to defend the Ary, they have made several overtures across Ioban to seek a solution to the slumber thru combined efforts at the Ary.

Culture

Amaranthis holds a high expectation to service to a greater ideal of Dragon Kind, an end to constant infighting and scheming and the true purpose of dragons, to protect and guide Eraneth in prosperity and peace. While this has often brought up questions if one should be Loyal to Amaranthis or this greater ideal, it has become common for its members to espouse the idea that a Strong Amaranthis will lead to a strong Council.

Public Agenda

Amaranthis has always sought a unified draconic effort to nurture and foster growth across Eraneth as was their charge. Finding the Metallic call for Rigid Order stifling and the Chromatic call for conflict and suffering too destructive they have attempted to propose and chart a path of greater freedom, understanding, and security. Now with the absence of Dragons, the Oligarchy projects an image of strength and desires to ensure stability of the Council Regions while bringing as many clans together to solve the current crisis. Being in the Central portion of the Island, word of settlers and interlopers from across Eraneth has been of little concern to them.

Assets

The Clan boasts 5 Urban hubs, Council City and 4 surrounding cities which form a defensive network to protect the Ary and Council City. These cities are each supported by many small hamlets and villages that focus on agriculture and lumber production. Council city itself also has a moderate mining operation both carving great lairs from the mountain as well as extracting rare resources.

History

Amaranthis remained neutral as often as possible in the Dragon Wars, wishing to not spill Draconic blood whenever possible. As the first war was fought to preven the council they took a more active roll defending the Ary and attempting to seek diplomatic solutions. The Second Dragon war saw them once more defending the Ary and taking minimal action outside of this. When the threat of Thurazdur became known they moved to take action but it was too late. Most efforts taken were to aide the elves of Velthanor in the wake of the sundering. The Third Dragon war saw an aggravated Amaranthis attempting to sabotage and disrupt military actions of both the Chromatic and Metallic clans. This arguably rash action has made current relations tenuous.

Demography and Population

Amaranthis has favored Elves(30%) and Gnomes(20%) in their population since the Age of Wonder, they prefer elves with psionic aptitudes. They however have also seen the value of Orcs(10%) for their military might and Dwarves(10%) for their industry and discipline. Of most other clans, Vassals and Dragons alike of Amaranthis have the most contact with people of other Dragon Clans making them the most open and accepting of outsiders, which also lead to an influx of Human Vassals after the Age of Wonder(15%). Halfdragons make up the remaining 15% of the population.

Technological Level

Due to their high Gnomish population, dedication to knowledge, and general freedom of expression, there are many minor technological marvels within the people of Amaranth that might even make the Gnomes of Tal'Thril and Tal'Kadre jelous.

Religion

Clan Amaranthis houses the greatest temple of Vas Kadara in all of Eraneth. While this temple is massive and impressive they do not have a large religious following. They respect their Matron deity, her pantheon, and their mission to safeguard Eraneth, acquire knowledge, and maintain balance.

Agriculture & Industry

Amaranthis has many rural communities which supply produce and livestock to feed their domains. The Clans primary industry is lumber, woodworking, Iron and metal working.

Infrastructure

One of the more urbanized regions of Ioban the 5 cities of Amaranthis are connected by a well maintained road network. While it has expanded, Amaranthis territores are encircled by mountains and their neighboring clans have seen little need to make such fine roads over the passes to their own domains.
