Skaney

Otherwise known as the Fulgurant Mesa, this tableland is a place of great
mystery to outsiders and also one of keen danger. The mesa is the favored region of Raegeric and is heavily influenced by his magic. Much like Raegeric, the mesa is chaotic and unpredictable. Despite the danger, anyone possessing at least one of Raegeric's blessings can live here safely—one of the only safeguards Raegeric assured for those he blessed. Though even these few aren't entirely safe from the most extreme influences of Skaney, such as its acid bogs. Meanwhile, Flumen Pontem weaves through the canyon complex below Skaney, falling under the sovreignty of the Kingdom of Accia. Despite their proximity, the lands of Skaney remain untouched by Accian influence.

The entirety of Skaney is most notably affected by eternal, roaming thunderstorms, electrically charged scrublands and a magnetic ocean swirling overhead. To outsiders, these thunderheads seem random, intensely destructive and unpredictable. Thanks to these endless storms, the constant rainfall produces mass amounts of water. Countless waterfalls pour into Flumen Pontem and Musi Kongo further south. While the rainforest receives the bulk of this water flow, the primary river in the Eluzian Valley is fed by Skaney. This water is infused with the eneries of the mesa, further amplifying the fertility of the valley and of Musi Kongo!

Geography

Skaney takes up the lands atop a massive mesa emerging from the earth abruptly, steep cliffs dropping off on every side and mostly flat across the top. A complex canyon system, Flumen Pontem, winds throughout the mesa pocked with caves and mines cutting into the brittle rock. Acid lakes and bogs lay concealed at the depths of the mesa, obscured by corrosive fog and rain. Magnetic, tiered islands rise above the surface, set afloat in an invisible sea. One massive yew tree sits at the southernmost point of the mesa, isles tangled amid its branches and caves grazing its roots which are protected by pockets of Ranalis and Malok magic. Finally, the entirety of the mesa is host to electrically charged air, shifting magnetic fields and intense thunderstorms with villages hiding inside. There are some uninhabited islands above the mesa as well, forested and mountainous isles with dangerous beasts calling them home. As for the climate, while the surface of the mesa is temperate, the environment grows colder along Skaney's northern borders and in the higher altitudes.

Regions

Eldingfjord

The majority of the surface of the Fulgurant Mesa

Otherwise known as the Static Scrublands, persistent shrubs, grasses and wildflowers sprawl across the surface of the mesa, most influenced by Beranok. These dense scrublands and unpredictable electric fields are unsuitable for agriculture thanks to its thin topsoil and absence of regular sunlight. The constant thunderstorms and rain wash soils away, only the hardiest sedge, heath, moss, lichen and grasses able to thrive in Eldingfjord.

A hidden ocean flows unseen above Eldingfjord, cradling innumerable islands sometimes referred to as the Ferrous Isles. These islands float overhead thanks to iron deposits in their cores, Fljotareyjar most influenced by Ralgot. Some magnetic currents are constant while other shift continuously, carrying smaller islands along unpredictable routes. Ordinarily aquatic beasts and plants with Ralgot magic have adapated to swim in these faux waters, thriving in this great magnetic sea!

Sets of islands which travel within the core of wandering, eternal thunderstorms

Otherwise known as the Thunderhead Isles, these archipelagos are most influenced by Beranok and Rylmer. Each island or group of islands remains inside the heart of an eternal thunderhead and are home to the infamous Storm Viking Ostmen. Thanks to the constant storms, these islands receive little to no sunlight and plantlife has evolved or been blessed to sustain themselves on electricity instead! Elding Timbr is an important resource for the Ostmen, allowing them to craft boats capable of sailing across storm clouds. They raid the Eluzian Valley and Keyh Sea for resources, their own lands unsuited for agriculture. This isn't to say their lands are barren, Thorreyjar home to wild and untamed forests and bountiful meadows with rare herbs.

Syremyr, otherrwise known as the Caustic Marsh, is most influenced by the aspect Ylixa. Much like this aspect, Syrmyr is mysterious, dangerous and poorly understood in this era. A mostly untouched wilderness, plentiful rivers, lakes and wetlands meander Skaney but are most concentrated in its southeastern edge. All of the water of Syremyr is laced with chemical components, especially acids and enzymes, including its waterways, rain and even fog. Far more vivacious and complex than most assume, the eco-system of Syremyr was crafted by both Raegeric and Dalyeric, much of its wildlife chemotrophs (draw energy from chemical reactions) rather than sustaining themselves on sunlight. Very few poeple live in this tranquil wilderness, inhabitants reclusive if not absent altogether!

Heart of the Fulgurant Mesa and Raegeric's Seat

In the southern region of Skaney, far beyond the kingdom's reach, is a massive yew tree with a bustling city hugging its trunk—the mythic Yggdrasil brought to life. Strange healers, vitki and mystics make their home in its branches, Alfar blessed by Ranalis. The tree and the islands floating amid its branches are protected by invisible pockets which induce confusion, insanity and hallucinations. Meanwhile, those burrowing into the caves grazing the tree's roots are blessed by Malok, making their living mining ore and Elemental Crystals which power their grand city and arm their Storm Viking . The city at the base of Yggdrasil acts as a gathering place, a place of trade and business, for all Ostmen of Skaney. In fact, Storm Vikings are well regarded in their own right, bringing the spoils of their raids to Yggdrasil to trade for new weapons and other goods. Ostmen of Yggdrasil venerate Raegeric as their god and patron, far more co-operative than their enemies like to believe. After all, Yggdrasil connects all Ostmen together, Dwarf, Viking or Alfar.
