Lacuna Heath

Also called the Hewn Scrub or simply the heathlands of the Chain. The highlands of the Tenebrous Chain are strewn with these verdant hillsides, hedged by alpine forests or little copse of Terror Thicket. Hardy heath, sedge and grasses grow in this nippy environment and most locals utilize it for sheep or goats. However, this seemingly empty environment has its own unique danger. The land has been carved and scarred as though a giant claw were dragged across the land—Zalikar's handiwork.

Massive swaths of earth have been hewn away, leaving peculiar outcroppings with agonized faces carved into them, steep and unnatural cliffs which drop into haunting, bottomless crevasses devoid of light. These are in fact portals into Vokda's Plane and Azowyr's Plane, grasping shadows and chilling mist filling these cracks in the landscape. It is rumored unseen beasts wait inside, snatching up any who wander too close. At the very least, these portals snatch up heat and sound, leaving the already cold region even more frigid. Despite this, shepherds and their cattle can be found grazing astride these gashes in the landscape.

Ecosystem

It may appear empty and haunting at first glance but this region holds its own diversity. Grasses, hedges, copses and a variety of wildflowers support all manner of small mammals, herbivores and insects. Birds thrive in the tall grasses and small forest glades as well alongside those who prey on these species. And while there may be few humans left who can utilize Vokda's portals, plenty of the local wildlife can tolerate forays into his plane and even thrive within. It has been one of Vokda's comforts, having such creatures to keep him company without a physical form.
