Ostmen Ethnicity in Emynea | World Anvil

Ostmen

A subethnicity of the Eluzian group. This is the indigenous ethnic group of the Fulgurant Mesa, once occupying the Flumen Pontem until the Quiris pushed them out. Because of the elemental dangers of the mesa and their own racial magic granting them immunity, their lands have remained out of the Kingdom of Accia's reach. Some Ostmen speak or at least recognize norrœnt mal but most speak accian as well.

They are true natives of the the Fulgurant Mesa, blessed by Raegeric. Most if not all Ostmen revere and even worship Raegeric or his aspectss as their deities. The mesa surface is rife with dangerous energy magic but those possessing any of Raegeric's blessings are capable of traversing the mesa, save the most dangerous depths like the Caustic Marsh. This has assured their autonomy and independence, insulating their culture and acting as a safe haven for all Ostmen. Their capital city is Yggdrasil which technically contains three smaller cities altogether.

Ostmen can be broken up into three further subethnicities: eldingarborn, alfar and dvergar. For the most part, these are distinguished by which of Raegeric's blessings one has inherited but each have their own distinct culture and way of life. Eldingarborn are known as storm viking s outside the mesa and they make their home amid the various Thunderhead Isles, possessing Beranok magic and raiding the valley or ships to sustain themselves. Alfar are also known as elves, living within the branches of Yggdrasil as mystics, healers and vitki. They are blessed by Ranalis and tend to the tree, guarding Raegeric's seat as well. Finally, dvergar are also known as dwarves. They are blessed by Malok and Ralgot, working within the caves and mines of the mesa and living amid the roots of Yggdrasil. They often quarrel with Quiris miners.
