Every living thing on Emynea has this form of magic. Racial magic is made up of two elemental connections and the way one can manifest those connections—how they can use it. Because these abilities are inherited from their ancestors who were originally blessed by the Erlithmanil during the Era of Legends, they came to be called racial magic. While there are only ten Erlithmanil, each of these entities have five aspects—more specific divisions of their element. It is these aspects an individual inherits a connection to. This means there are more than fifty aspects and one can inherit any combination! Since every organism in Emynea has two connections, these abilities are extremely diverse. Especially since there are a variety of ways one can wield that connection. However, not all manifestations are equal. Some gifts are greater than others.

Racial magic expresses itself physically, meaning everyone has both a normal form and a magic form which they can switch between or even blend together. Even forms that don't physically alter their body, that grant them a way of interacting with an element, gain an altered appearance. A wide array of colorful patterns and markings appear across their body in their form and when they use their magic. Vivid hair or eye colors matching their element are also common. The color of these markings express their elemental connection, certain colors associated with specific elements like orange for fire magic or purple for decay. Yet the exact shapes and patterns differ person to person.

Aside from elemental connection, the other half of racial magic is their manifestation—how are they able to wield it? While cultures around Emynea each have their own names, stories and legends for these abilities, the most efficient system in contemporary Emynea is the Accian system. They have established a standardized method by naming each of these two abilities separately, first by aspect and then by manifestation. For example, Flithmar's Aura is the ability to summon flames while Besida's Form grants the caster attributes of a specific kind of bird such as wings, feathers, talons or a beak. Which bird differs by family or even individual. As a final example, Zithvek's Manipulation is a mental manifestation which allows the caster to manipulate emotions and thoughts related to Zithvek such as rage, need, passion or drive.

Under the Accian system, each individual has two racial magics in whichever combination they inherit, even as these two merge or interact in various ways. Also, as there is a distinction between mental and physical aspects, there are differences in Physical Manifestations and Mental Manifestations. While sharing similar names, how these manifestations can be used or how they express themselves can differ. These are simply the names lain down by the Kingdom of Accia's scholars.

Each element is connected to a specific color, colors which appear on the bodies of those possessing the corresponding magic! Different shades also indicate different aspects as well, adding a visual indication of one's racial magic to their form. Those blessed by Aethid have far more dramatic markings.

Side/Secondary Effects


Racial magic tends to develop certain personality quirks, tendencies or habits in their caster. These are qualities of the Aspect they manifest, of the actual embodiment of these natural forces which lives within their Elemental Planes. Casters will develop at least one quality but can still develop more.


Manifestation


Gan, Spirit of Fliris
When one manifests their racial magic, they connect to an aspect of an Erlithmanil. This connection grants the caster a secondary form referred to as a magic form. One's magic form combines and physically reflects both racial abilities. Beasts, beings and plants are able to switch between or even blend their normal form and their magic form at will. There are many plants and animals which are always in their magic form on instinct and many people enjoy casually manifesting their magic form.

One must take on their form when manifesting their abilities, it generally appears automatically. If a caster exhausts their energy, their life force, they will not be able to take on their form at all until they rest. Every magic form is unique to which combination of racial abilities has been inherited and how they personally manifest their elemental connections. Finally, even the less flashy or visibly obvious forms will generally alter their appearance in some way. For example, someone with Azowyr's Manipulation is able to control and shape shadows. When using their abilities, their hands will take on shadowy, gray hues and perhaps their eyes as well. Each form is unique but their appearance will always be affected by their elemental connection. A common strategy in battle is predicting an opponent's magic by observing their form, the color of the patterns and their location.

All racial magic pulls from the corresponding Erlithmanil, from the planes which are pieces of the elements' minds and souls. A caster's ancestors have passed down the elemental connection originally granted to them by the elements during the Era of Legends. Each individual can draw from and utilize these connections using their own life energy, their own soul, to draw from or access the elemental planes. How they can manifest this connection is also hereditary but some manifestations express themselves differently by individual. This connection cannot be severed, as all divine pacts are permanent, but the Erlithmanil are able to block or temporarily stop the flow of their magic if they makes a conscious effort to do so. After all, they are the source. If a caster exhausts themselves, they are not able to utilize their connection again until they rest.
