Dalyeric Character in Emynea | World Anvil

Dalyeric

Mother Dalyeric (a.k.a. Decay)

Dalyeric is the element of decay. She is among the most feared and disliked elements alongside Zalikar and they have a close working relationship. Dalyeric has a jealousy for Zalikar's pact with Azryth, finding herself a force closer to death, but she doesn't let this jealousy get in the way of working together.

Most of Dalyeric's aspects are poorly understood in the current age. Their five aspects are Ithkor, Torith, Veksit, Bulok and Krithda. Ithkor is fungi. Torith is toxins and poisons. Veksit is disease, viruses and bacteria. Bulok is all bugs involved in decomposition or feed on organic material. Krithda is order and sanity. Sometimes people believe Krithda belongs to Raegeric and Malok, chaos, belongs to Dalyeric.

by Lee Stepp

Dalyeric is a proud being despite embodying what others might see as unsavory element. She sees the beauty in decay, knowing fully that it is an essential necessity in the balance of the world. Dalyeric is a planner, she enjoys orderly and intricate interplay. She enjoys facilitating, organizing and directing these complex and often unseen events. She is also someone who is ruthless, unblinking, savage and devastating while executing these events, always keeping the end result in mind and ignoring everything else. She can be hasty in these matters. She sees the suffering her plots can cause but she looks past them out of necessity. And she does so regardless of what anyone else might think or say.

by Lee Stepp

Dalyeric can be rather underhanded and deceptive, not often what she seems. Tricky and clever, one may never guess whether her cheerfulness is a sign of danger or genuine amusement. She will commit the most vicious of atrocities, plunge herself into utter filth and corruption, equipped with the sweetest demeanor. She does so not out of cruelty or malice but with a hidden sense of purpose. Anyone who knows Dalyeric are keenly aware that everything she does, every ounce of delight in her seeming ruthlessness, is driven by the same overarching purpose—balance and order. They know nothing will stand before her and maintaining the balance of life and death in Emynea, no matter the cost and no matter how dirty her own hands become. Because she knows no matter what she faces, only she can bring order where others see hopelessness.

Dalyeric's Elemental Familiar is Wyrm, originally a jackal. Wyrm was not one of the original ten familiars and is instead a descendant. Wyrm faithfully serves Dalyeric, understanding and endorsing their mission. They have grown quite close over the thousands of years their partnership has lasted, Wyrm often on their hosts' shoulders in a serpentine form.

Divine Symbols & Sigils

Below is Dalyeric's crest and the monograms of her aspects, alongside the colors associated with them.

Physical Description

General Physical Condition

by Lee Stepp
She is thin and wispy. She has no need of a physically powerful body, death at her fingertips. She enjoys ginger hair or less natural colors such as fucsia or indigo.

Special abilities

Dalyeric possesses all abilities and magic of her five aspects. These are fungi, toxins, bugs, diseases and order. As the source of all decay magic, she can use her abilities as freely as she desires and without reservation.

by Lee Stepp

Ithkor is the aspect of all fungi whether this is mold, mycelium roots or actual mushrooms. She is able to perceive, influence and even generate any and all kinds of fungi—already far more prevalent than most realize. Torith is the aspect of toxins whether these are poisons and venoms of living creatures or simply individual toxins themselves. She enjoys cooking up new variations.

Bulok revolves around all bugs, insects and parasites. The line between which of these fall under her Aethid children Zuvaath and Malrot can seem a bit fuzzy at times but generally if it feeds on living organisms, live or dead, it falls under Bulok. Veksit is the aspect of diseases, all bacteria and viruses falling under this aspect.

by Lee Stepp

Last of their aspects is Krithda, a mental aspect. Krithda encapsulates emotions, thoughts, states and memories revolving around order, sanity, selflessness and prioritizing the many over the few.

Mental characteristics

Personal history

by Lee Stepp

Dalyeric has always been one of the most reviled and misunderstood elements and this was much harder on her in her youth. While humanity fawned over the magic and gifts of her peers such as fire, water and light they were just as instantly repulsed by her own. Her cute and orderly little bugs, her fantastical and unique fungi, her clever poisons and her persistent diseases. Only Zalikar received the same trepidation and this is what drew her to him as an ally. Over the millenia, Dalyeric grew more confident in her gifts and the vital roles they played, developing an odd and twisted sense of humor instead. As a result of this poor reception, not many possess Dalyeric's blessings but those who do are extremely lethal.

Gender Identity

by Lee Stepp

Dalyeric mostly leans into a female gender identity but feels most comfortable with an intersex body. There are occasions she will take up a male appearance and she certainly doesn't consider herself entirely female. It all depends on her preference at the time and who her audience will be.

Sexuality

by Lee Stepp

Pansexual. She is also an avid sadist, enjoying toying with her partners and seeing how far she can push them. She has been known to take things too far by overestimating a lover's tolerance.

Intellectual Characteristics

by Lee Stepp

Dalyeric is charismatic, cheery and charming yet something always feels off. One can almost see the wheels turning in her mind, weighing options and cooking up schemes. She has a sharp tongue she isn't afraid to lash one with either, sometimes far too harsh or sudden. While she was more uncertain of herself in her youth, she now doesn't tolerate the careless or stupid when they disrespect her or those she views as undeserving. She gladly and cheerfully torments offenders and is quick to defend and nurture outcasts and any who appreciate her aspects.

by Lee Stepp

She has a keen mind, a savage ruthlessness and often loses sight of those before her for the sake of the grand scheme. These come together alongside her own hastiness in dangerous ways, Dalyeric regularly leaving destruction in her wake. She often hurts those closest to her but somehow she is also the best at cleaning up these messes, tidying up loose ends and putting salve on every wound. In her own mind, she is a gardener, tearing up dead roots and clipping away old growth so her garden can thrive. She doesn't seem to notice how exhausting she can be or recognize people are more than simple plant clippings.

by Lee Stepp

Most of the Erlithmanil are straightforward but Dalyeric enjoys complexity. She finds beauty in what others might view as broken or ruined. She enjoys salvaging these seeming lost cases. She can be extremely helpful, resourceful and even nurturing but left unchecked, she can be suffocating, overbearing and belittling. She believes she knows best, trying to control every detail as well as becoming too goal oriented. She can't stand disorder and will go too far to regain control. She holds on too tight or may even lose herself to her temper when she isn't able to have things go her way.

by Lee Stepp

When it comes to those she loves, Dalyeric is extremely doting and generous with her affection. Where most see death and suffering she sees dutiful creatures doing their best within their role. Where most see putrid flesh rotting away into sludge, a foul odor in their nostrils and bile in their mouth, Dalyeric is fascinated by the intricate dance of decay blossoming and reclaiming what the lifeform took throughout their lifespan. She is just as ready to recognize the flaws and ugliness within people, to recognize how these complexities have helped them face what the world set before them or put them through. To recognize their strength where others may claim weakness and help them with all of the gritty, unpleasant baggage within. She will ride out the worst and help salvage the beauty in even the most broken of people, whether she was asked to or not.

Morality & Philosophy

by Lee Stepp

In Dalyeric's eyes, any action is permissable as long as balance and order is maintained. One or two lives are never more important than the majority. She will gladly cut off the hand to save the body and will endure "discomforts" or small sacrifices in order for the overarching scheme to go right. She often has to rely on her allies to alert her to when she has taken things too far, even as she thrashes against their limitations. Dalyeric also places very little value on human life, these creatures who believe themselves above all other forms of life. In Dalyeric's eyes, all organic life is the same—simply fodder for her children, a fate all humans will eventually fall to. All life will one day feed her fungi, insects and bacteria, she sees no reasons humans should be special. This leaves her totally at odds with Lithmor and Ferith.

Personality Characteristics

Motivation

by Lee Stepp

Dalyeric is one of the few beings aware of the true nature of Zalikar's pact with Azryth. Zalikar understands the true nature of Dalyeric and often leverages the abilities granted by his pact to keep Dalyeric in check as she can become too ambitious or arrogant. Dalyeric still must continue supporting Zalikar despite this, due to the details of the pact, and overlooks these occurrences for the grand scheme of things.

Social

Contacts & Relations

by Lee Stepp

Dalyeric isn't well liked by a number of the Erlithmanil. She considers Zalikar her closest friend, easily becoming jealous of his friendship Wylrith and Rylis. She can be clingy with Zalikar but he understands her well enough to know where it comes from, that he is one of the few beings to understand her loneliness. This isn't to say she doesn't have other relationships. She is very close to Fliral and Lunil, sharing children with them even. Ylithuum finds comfort in Dalyeric's company, confides in her and relies on her considerably. But Zalikar is the only other who understands what it is to be openly disliked and made the villain by humanity and even their own kind.

by Lee Stepp

She and Wylrith have no open dislike of each other, Wylrith understanding their friendship with Zalikar is not affected by her occasional jealousy. However, Rylis openly dislikes Dalyeric not quite understanding how Zalikar, Ylithuum and Raegeric tolerate let alone enjoy her company. He tolerate her despite his distrust but both Lithmor and Ferith are openly volatile towards Dalyeric, utterly at odds at every turn.

by Lee Stepp

One might predict and even expect that Dalyeric and her counterpart to butt heads and oppose each other. However, Dalyeric gets along very well with Raegeric. In fact, they are so ridiculously attracted to each other to the point it bothers everyone else around them, finding them insufferable. They have incredible chemistry despite being total opposites. Dalyeric enjoys his unpredictable and extreme personality while he enjoys how dangerous and clever she can be. Cutesy nicknames, finding ways to provoke and incite each other, being far too affectionate or physical in public, playing idiotic or complicated games. Zalikar in particular tries to avoid them when they are together, already having little tolerance for Raegeric. However, they are also quick to wear the other out and their time spent together doesn't often last very long.

Family Ties

by Lee Stepp

Dalyeric has three children: Banalkar, Malrot and Zuvaath. Banalkar and she have a tenuous relationship but she enjoys doting on the younger two.

Religious Views

by Lee Stepp

Much like Lithmor venerates and is dedicated to the pursuits of Luxis Dalyeric shares a similar view of Azryth. Death is her bread and butter after all, that which puts food on the table for her precious aspects.
