Accia Syltharis Character in Emynea | World Anvil

Accia Syltharis (Ah-see-ah sil-thar-iss)

As seen in

King Accia Syltharis- Verga (a.k.a. Cici)

This is perhaps the most famous human in Emynean history. Venerated within the Kingdom of Accia as their founder but reviled by those worshipping any of the Erlithmanil as the godslayer. He had a humble background, living within the Greco-Roman empire which oversaw the Eluzian Valley under the watchful eye of their gods. He was a simple shepherd, that is until he survived one of Zalikar's last purges.

In the ashes of a once thriving society, witnessing his attempts to save as many from the Dark King's wrath as possible, Luxis chose this hero as their champion. Or at least that's how the legend goes. Luxis bestowed a powerful and unique gift onto Accia—he became the first Shape Shifter. For how else could he stand against their array of abilities? Accia set out from the valley, the task before him seeming insurmountable. He gathered ten beasts to fight alongside him, sharing his power with each of them as they traveled and trained. Luxis also united him with another devotee of life, an unexpected one. Princess Sylthari, Zalikar's own daughter. It was by allying himself with the Celestial and these ten beasts they were able to overcome the elements.

After the Downfall of the Erlithmanil, he and Sylthari turned their attention towards healing. The defeat of the Erlithmanil left the world scarred and empires had begun to collapse under immense power vacuums. Sylthari and he acquired the city of the gods, once their capital, and moved it into the valley Accia loved. Here they got to work and, with Sylthari's wisdom and experience, established the Kingdom of Accia, renaming the city in his honor. As this occupied much of his time and he knew age would eventually claim him, the hero had one last task to assure the Erlithmanil would remain sealed.

Accia entrusted the sealing crystals of the Erlithmanil to each of his beasts and instructed them to pass on this responsibility to their children. He knew ambitious men may seek the crystals, chasing power, and that the crafty Erlithmanil would readily scheme their escape. He believed only these mighty shape shifting beasts, his faithful friends, had the power to protect them. Unfortunately, he didn't realize the weakness in his own allies. But he never lived to see what would become of them or the chimeric beings they would birth, seeking revival.

Physical Description

Special abilities

by Lee Stepp

There has been immense speculation and legend and rumor swirling about his abilities. There is more than enough conflicting claims and stories, so much so that the truth of what he was capable of is unknown. Some question how much of these legends were attributed to his abilities and which were actually the power of Sylthari or his beasts. Even his original racial magic has been lost to history. But it was clear he was the first Shape Shifter. Unfortunately, he is the only shape shifter in history to be seen in a positive light as all those preceding him are viewed as corruptions of his divine gift—demonic abominations stealing and defiling his power to undue all he fought for.

Personal history

by Lee Stepp

Accia lived a peaceful life before Zalikar's purge. He was a simple man who enjoys his simple life. He was shepherd to a modest flock of sheep along the eastern edges of the Eluzian Valley. He even had a pleasant view of the city of Accia which would one day take his name. He loved his community and he loved his many siblings. His mother was a devoted worshipper of Luxis—something quite prosecuted in their region. Their empire was polytheistic, worshipping the Erlithmanil instead. He quietly held this same faith in his heart, a hidden bond between he and his mother. He never knew why she was so committed but he always respected her for it.

Accomplishments & Achievements

by Lee Stepp

He is attributed as the Accian hero, famous for being the mere mortal who was able to slay the Erlithmanil, setting humanity free from the Dark King Zalikar. He is also the co-founder of the Kingdom of Accia and the Syltharis royal line, taking his wife's name in marriage. That line still continues today.

Mental Trauma

by Lee Stepp

He was horribly bitter and guilty over the slaughter he witnessed during Zalikar's purge. Over the callousness of it and being powerless to stop it. It fueled atrocities committed under his own hands, much of which have been glazed over in the histories and legends. The wholesale slaughter of those worshipping Zalikar and Dalyeric in Cihuateopan just one example. While a great hero to his own people, he was ruthless toward anyone faithful and, in his mind, complacent or accessory to the slaughter he witnessed.

Personality Characteristics

Motivation

His goal was to free humanity from their immortal tyrants so they could pursue their own future, free of Zalikar's cruel purges. He placed human life and autonomy over all else. However, he wasn't afraid of taking the lives of those who support or even follow orders from the Erlithmanil. Part of him is equally livid with himself for being complacent for so many years, questioning had he stepped forward sooner he might have been able to save all of those lives. He develops a very black and white view as their journey progresses but, as their task is finished he releases these burdens. He moves forward to build a future for humanity and quell the power vacuum they left behind, alongside Sylthari.

Social

Hobbies & Pets

Accia had a peculiar admiration and affection for canines. Whether this was some eccentric preference or influence from his time as a shepherd is unclear. It is this preference that led to all ten of his beastial allies to be some form of canine. These included a gray wolf, dog, dhole, african wild dog, himalayan wolf, coyote, jackal, sha, maned wolf and tanuki. See Elemental Familiars to see those still among the living.
