Human Species in Emynea | World Anvil

Human

Alongside beasts and plants, humans are one of the main lifeforms in Emynea. They are the favorite of Luxis, Life, and have a rich history with the Erlithmanil. Humanity had existed before the Erlithmanil came to life but their world and lives would forever be changed by elemental influence. As the elements walked and changed their planet, the humans at first struggled to survive those changes. In response to this, the Erlithmanil began gifting their magic to humans so they could better survive these changes as well as generally improving and enriching their lives.

In this period often called the Era of Legends, humanity worshipped these beings and would compete for their favor or strive to impress or endear themselves to them. Many origin myths were passed down from this era and humans began giving special names to those with particular forms. Humans, along with plants and animals, were capable of receiving two gifts and would pass these two gifts on to their children. A child could receive two forms from either of their parents or, sometimes, from their grandparents. Humanity and their societies flourished with these gifts, settling into places around the world best suited to them. They were able to live in incredible ways and in places they could never survive in before. Even underwater or underground cities were developed. Kingdoms would rise and fall but the bulk of people remained in their optimal biomes. The whole planet changed, adapted and flourished with these gifts.

From then on humans defined themselves by their magic. Humans began calling these gifts racial magic and their wonderful new forms their magic form, able to switch between this and their human form. Some forms were more common depending on one's heritage and the rarest gifts offered amazing abilities and advantages. Not all blessings were equal. There are instances of migration and mixing, of course, and the Erlithmanil didn't pour all of their magic into only a few select locations but certain forms were most common among particular peoples.
