Rylis
(a.k.a. Air)
Rylis is the element of air and is among the ten Erlithmanil. His blessings are fairly common and widespread. Rylis is also androgynomasculine, refusing to be tied down by gender norms. He is a close ally of Zalikar and generally breathes life into his inner circle.
Like all of the Erlithmanil, he possesses five aspects which expresses his power and personality. These aspects are Oksi, Yrisni, Sonildaz, Fliris and Charnos. Oksi is the physical matter of air, gas. Yrisni is the movement of air, wind. Sonildaz is the vibration of air, sound. Fliris is movement through or in air, flight/freedom. Charnos is the metaphor or emotion inspired by air, change and innovation.

Rylis is a free spirit and impossible to pin down or inhibit. He values freedom and change and will do anything to ensure it for himself and others. Ever on the move and swift to find anything new, he loves the arts and anything creative. He can be flamboyant and expressive, often defying tradition. He is also flexible and adaptable like Wylrith and similarly possesses a long fuse. He tends to be right to the point and his words can be cutting, much like Zalikar. He can also be churlish, mischievous and abrasive and his energy can whittle people down. Whether one finds him refreshing or too much, he flits about any gathering like a whirlwind and plucks up attention as he goes.

Rylis is also considered one of the Three Muses alongside Lithmor and Ferith, primarily as the patron of music, dance and innovation. He has a passion for creative expression and boldly steps into the future without letting the past hold him down. His counterpart Ylithuum has a tendency to study and preserve history while he is focused firmly on the future. He encourages change and being inventive, for humanity to push forward in bold new ways. Even if it means shredding apart the present.
Rylis' Elemental Familiar is Spirit , originally a coyote. They are kindred souls, Spirit making ecstatic use of her shape shifting and elemental powers. She enjoys travel much like her master and admires human creativity alongside him.

General Physical Condition

Rylis will change his form to whatever is convenient or suits his mood at the time, altering ethnicity, gender and body types freely. Unlike the rest of his kind, he rarely tries to blend in by matching local ethnicity, preferring to stand out.

He prefers being tall, slender and willowy. He is extremely speedy and agile as one might expect. Not particularly bulky despite his height. Sometimes he will look more feminine depending on his presentation.

His face is long and narrow with bright eyes, very sharp. He likes to keep his hair long but is also prone to shaving sections of his scalp. His eyes are blue, green or a mix of the two.

Rylis possesses all abilities and magic of his five aspects. These are gas, wind, sound, movement and change. As the source of all air magic, he can use his abilities as freely as he desires and without reservation.

Oksi is the aspect of gas, all versions included in the table of elements. While these may be invisible to most, he and those possessing his magic can perceive them. Yrisni is wind, the movement of air. This can be used for travel, defensively and offensively.

Sonildaz is the aspect of sound as in vibrations whether in air, solids or liquids. This is also as aspect heavily involved with music and inspiration. Fliris is a complex aspect, including flight, movement, freedom of motion, velocity, agility and kinetic energy. He can even shrink using this aspect, utilize invulnerability, slip through solid matter, manipulate his own movement or those of another. It's truly a versatile aspect.

Last among his aspects is his single mental aspect. Charnos encapsulates emotions, thoughts, states and memories or even a desire for change, innovation, novelty, originality, inspiration, independence, and spontaneity. Fresh and creative inspiration as well as innovative concepts can be gleaned from this this plane. Ideas and possibilities hide within, only becoming the domain of other aspects once they've become common practice or tradition.

After the Birth of the Erlithmanil and amid the Era of Legends, it was Rylis who helped his allies pick up the pieces. He encouraged them to move forward after their rampage, to focus on the future rather than wallow in regrets or loss. He also worked alongside Ylithuum to help humanity to rebuild, to reestablish their societies and set new traditions without simply replicating the past completely.
Gender Identity

Rylis considers himself Androgynomasculine or simply nonbinary for those unfamiliar with the concept. Overall, he finds tying or limiting oneself to any given gender expression silly, especially for beings which can alter these features at will. He refuses to bind himself to any rules or norms related to gender and in fact regularly challenges them. He enjoys taking on a mostly male body and appearance but will just as readily wear woman's clothing and even makeup. He is who he is and let's no one define him.

Rylis is a wandering spirit, finding it difficult to stay anywhere for very long. His curiosity to witness what is novel and unique to every age keeps him wandering Emynea. He is energetic, bold, mischievous, invigorating and is quick to encourage anyone and everyone. He is fun and entertaining, always having a quick wit and clever joke. He breathes life into any gathering, entertaining and even jovial. He can be flamboyant and colorful, sometimes over the top and too concerned with appearances. He is adaptive and flighty, almost unpredictable. He can be evasive, often shirking responsibilities and forging his own unique path. He enjoys going against the grain, being unconventional and challenging what he sees as stagnant thinking.

Rylis also has a skill for cutting through peoples defenses and facades, seeing them for who they are. He isn't afraid to speak his mind, often taking things too far or his honesty instigating all manner of problems. This is part of why his friendship with Zalikar can be surprising. Some might even find him two faced, unstable or unreliable but Zalikar feels he knows Rylis at his core and they share a mutual respect. They both value individuality and Rylis has a surprising tolerance for Zalikar's seeming heartlessness, becoming particularly ruthless himself when provoked.

He cares little for stability when it comes at the cost of freedom or self expression. He also grows bored easily, growing antsy and unpredictable. He dislikes repetition and always seeks out novel entertainment. He also greatly enjoys dancing, finding it to be a satisfying way to appreciate music, express oneself and get everything out of his system. It is the perfect combination of Sonildaz and Fliris, his aspects. Despite their opposing views and values, music is one of the few things that brings he and Ylithuum together. She also acts as his anchor, pulling him back down to earth when he strays too far or being the warm sanctuary he can always return to amid his travels. And despite his adventurous soul, even he wears himself down at times.

Rylis is an adventurous, expressive and invigorating ally. He is the hearty laughter in one's ear, the fresh air in one's lungs, the stirring words in times of uncertainty, the wind in one's hair. He is the song which stirs the spirit or draw forth tears, he is the one to utter "what if", he is the bold new fashion or the sudden inspiration in the night. He is the wind in the sails pushing life forward and the centering breath in trying times.

Rylis values freedom, creativity and self expression above all else. He values individuality and forging a better future, a future in which anyone and everyone has a chance to thrive. He is often the reminder in Zalikar's ear not to sacrifice the tree for forest, not to forget one for all. Reminding him to accept the ever churning wheel of time, that change cannot be avoided only stalled. He is the one reminding his allies what is worth striving towards and refuses to accept stagnation or limitations. He ever pushes for better, even when it seems impossible. He knows Emynea may just fall into such a state without the Erlithmanil and this is his primary motivator for siding with Zalikar.

Rylis pulls motivations from both viewpoints of the Erlithmanil. He both wants to inspire and drive humanity forward while simultaneously wishing to untether them from stagnant traditions and the chains of history. He knows that Emynea needs the Erlithmanil, that unchecked human ambition can be toxic, and currently seeks their revival. But he also recognizes Zalikar's shortcomings, his bias. The way his past taints him. He strives towards the future with his allies and tries to keep balance in mind, even if he doesn't always succeed.

Contacts & Relations

Rylis comes and goes from many groups, a social vagrant of sorts, but in the end allies himself with Zalikar and Wylrith. He still spends considerable time with Lithmor and Ferith, as they are the Three Muses who work to inspire humanity. He is one of Raegeric's closest friends, often getting into trouble and misadventures with him and Lunil. They are quite the chaotic trio, getting into shenanigans. When he wants calmer company, he spends time with Fliral, Wylrith or Zalikar. The only Erlithmanil he openly dislikes is Dalyeric, finding them sneaky, scheming and toxic. He doesn't understand how both Raegeric and Zalikar can tolerate them.

Like most of his kind, Rylis has a complex relationship with his counterpart, Ylithuum. On the surface they are like oil and water, their values and priorities often opposing the other. Yet they also possess an undeniable chemistry and, no matter how they bicker and no matter how many times they go their separate ways, they always end up enamoured with each other again. Rylis would never admit it to Ylithuum but even as he journeys endlessly, even as he refuses to be tied down and even as he has dalliances with other people, Ylithuum is his beating heart. She is the one he will always find his way home to and who he will lean on when he is weary. She is his home, no matter where he journeys. He always wishes to put a smile on her face, to be the tune she hums and the one to whisk her away when her burdens become too heavy.
