GHG Session 26: Conversion at Spearpoint
General Summary
Month 13, Week 2, Year 918
Noticing smoke from the southern docks of Sanjuro City early Sunday morning, the Fortunate Five raced from their dorms to deal with the budding crisis. Beguiler and Reetma were the first ones to get there, discovering a scene of carnage and burnt-down buildings as a pack of Gruumsh-worshiping lizardfolk tore through the docks. Beguiler leaped from rooftop to rooftop attacking the lizardfolk, while Reetma raced into the middle of the fray to draw the cultist's attention away from his closet buddy. Zan'kiri followed not long after with his troupe of skeleton pigs, ordering them around the dock's perimeter to extinguish the burning flames. Windred, Bubbles, and Ysmyrelda arrived at the scene last, just in time to see Reetma get skewered by three different lizardfolk. Zan'kiri's 'Web' spell made combat difficult for these front-line cultists, but they still managed to land several blows fueled by the power of Gruumsh's rage. Beguiler leaped into the fight while Windred summoned Cheyeashtai to fight as a psychic beast, Zan'kiri winding through the ruined buildings to fight the leader of this terrorist cell (affectionately referred to as Raptor Jesus). Ys jumped into the webs to heal Reetma while Beguiler conjured up an illusion to briefly protect his closet buddy from the lizardfolk spears, but the cultists saw through the illusion and continued with their onslaught of attacks. Reetma fell dead, only to be revived a moment later by Raptor Jesus. After that deadly encounter, none of the lizardfolk bothered Reetma for the rest of the fight. The battle dragged on, the party picking off cultists one by one. Raptor Jesus had murdered a couple of Chusei University guards before the FF joined the fight, reviving them as zombies to fight against the group. Each zombie was dispatched with ease, even with their thick layers of armor and weaponry. Bubbles helped Zan'kiri deal with Raptor Jesus once the front line cultists were defeated, Ysmyrelda flying around the battlefield with the newfound raven powers of her Handgun cloak. Zan'kiri resisted the enchanting effects of a spell Raptor Jesus cast, but rather than getting a satisfying one-on-one duel RJ exploded in a cloud of bugs and acid once all the other cultists were defeated. The docks were secure. Toshiro Matsui raced over from Chusei University to help deal with the battle's fallout, giving the party time for a much-needed rest back at their dorms. Samira provided the team with plenty of intel on the lizardfolk menace, including some examples of Gruumsh's religious iconography. She still had plenty of work to do for headmistress Kyoko, but Samira was willing to pull all-nighters for the group to help in their anti-Gruumsh campaign. Reetma spent much of the day resting after this traumatic fight, a rough orientation for life in one of the GHG's least ethical teams. While Beguiler failed to help Samira translate old Rakkan manuscripts Windred failed to commune with Cheyeashtai that evening, interrupted by some bizarre spell cast by Craghan. Believing that the kalashtar was relying too much on her quori counterpart, he decided that he needed to take a more active in role in saving Windred's soul...
