Sentinel Commander

The Sentinel Commander serves as a distinguished Coalition Officer within the Dragonguard Alliance. Unlike the other senior officers, the Sentinel Commander holds a four-star rank, placing them on par with analogous ranks in the regional Dragonguard structure. This includes ranks such as Wing Commander, Field Commander, and Admiral. Additionally, because of its unique position, the rank also aligns with other coalition ranks, such as Air Marshal, Field Marshal, and Fleet Admiral.   The rank of Sentinel Commander occupies a uniquely pivotal role compared to other commanders within the alliance. They are the highest-ranking officer who commands the Dragonguard Sentinels, a military police unit tasked with maintaining order and upholding law within Dragonguard installations. What sets the Sentinels apart is their operational independence; they and their commander do not full under the direct control of the Archon, the highest authority within the Dragonguard. This structural distinction explains why the Sentinel Commander is classified as a Coalition Officer despite holding only a four-star rank. Like other Coalition Officer ranks, only one Sentinel Commander is appointed at any given time.   The responsibilities of the Sentinels are both diverse and specialized, necessitating a wide-range skill set that transcends the traditional boundaries of military branches. As a result of their unique operational demands, there was no requirement for a five-star grade, leading the Dragonguard to determine that a four-star officer could effectively command the Sentinels. Rather than being confined to a specific branch of service, the Sentinels comprise personnel from various fields, enabling them to tackle a multitude of duties that may arise in the course of their work.

Qualifications

To attain the rank of Sentinel Commander, candidates must meet qualifications that mirror those required for any four-star commander. This includes extensive experience in military leadership, a proven track record of strategic planning, and the ability to effectively manage large units in complex operational environments. Additionally, as the Sentinel Commander operates as a Coalition Officer, the individual must fulfill the specific prerequisite associated with becoming an Alliance officer.

Requirements

To be considered eligible for the position of Sentinel Commander of the Dragonguard, a candidate must meet several requirements. The candidate must have held the rank of three-star lieutenant commander for a minimum of twelve years within the Dragonguard Sentinels. This substantial experience not only showcases their capability in leadership but also demonstrates their commitment to the values and missions of the Dragonguad.   Beyond these qualifications, the candidate is required to complete the Coalition Officer Training courses. These courses are designed to equip officers with the strategic insights, tactical proficiencies, and operational knowledge necessary to navigate high-level decision-making in complex scenarios. The curriculum includes in-depth studies of military strategy, conflict resolution, and resource management, ensuring that candidates emerge as well-rounded leaders.   In addition to completing the required training courses to become a Coalition Officer, the candidate must also undertake a coalition officer tour. This tour is an essential component of their development, allowing them the opportunity to engage directly with council members and other coalition officers. During this period, the candidate will participate in various meetings and collaborative activities, fostering relationships and gaining a deeper understanding of the Dragonguard's objectives.

Appointment

To ascend to the position of Sentinel Commander within the Dragonguard, a candidate must have met an array of qualifications and criteria.   The selection of a Sentinel Commander is critically dependent on securing a unanimous vote from the Board of Directors. This decision-making body is composed of highly respected leaders who possess extensive experience and insight into the workings of the Dragonguard. They evaluate the candidate based on key factors such as their past performance, unwavering dedication to the organization's mission, and their strategic vision for the future of the Dragonguard.   Moreover, the current Sentinel Commander is eligible for re-appointment upon the conclusion of their initial four-year term. Should they demonstrate continued effectiveness and a clear vision for further advancements within the Dragonguard, they may be granted an additional two-year term. This would allow for consistency in leadership and the opportunity to continue implementing their strategies for the Dragonguard's growth and success.

Grounds for Removal/Dismissal

After serving a four-year term, the Sentinel Commander has two options regarding their future. They have the option to retire and revert back to their previous rank of three-star lieutenant commander, or to seek reappointment for a further two years, extending their command and responsibilities.   Should they opt for the two-year reappointment, it is important to note that this extension is still bound by certain limitations. Upon the conclusion of this additional term, the Sentinel Commander is obligated to retire to their previous three-star grade once again. This policy is implemented to ensure that opportunities for promotion are available for qualified officers, fostering leadership growth within the ranks and maintaining a dynamic command structure. Thus, the transition is designed not only to honor the achievements of the Sentinel Commander but also to promote fairness and progression among their peers.

History

The Sentinels were created a year after the Dragonguard Alliance formed, when the coalition officers of the time realized they needed policing on dragonguard bases, and escorts for the high-ranking officers. When the Dragonguard Sentinels were created, they also needed an officer to command them, and thus this rank was created.
