Drakeridge (ˈdreɪkrɪʤ)
Drakeridge is a charming and picturesque city strategically nestled at the foothills of the Drakeridge Mountains, which serve as a natural barrier in northern Drakemyst. This vibrant settlement is not only known for its stunning scenic views but also for its critical role within the Dragongaurd. Here, the city was built to hold and stand against the formidable Wyrm of Chaos imprisoned within the icy landscape of Frostcrest.
The narrow passageway through the mountains is the only way for the Wyrm to escape and wreak havoc upon the many human settlements within Drakemyst and Arkynshire. As a result, the city of Drakeridge has become a bastion of defense against this looming threat. While not to the same level as Eldrya, the Dragonguard maintains a significant presence in the city. This instills their dedication to protecting the public. Their bases and watchtowers dot the city, ensuring constant vigilance and readiness to confront any threats that may arise.
Being the most northern city in the eastern hemisphere, Drakeridge thrives as a bustling hub, attracting traders, adventurers, and scholars alike. They are all drawn by its unique blend of natural beauty and vital strategic importance. The city's architecture reflects its rich history, with murals, statues, and museums dedicated to the historical events that took place here.
Demographics
Drakeridge is of significant strategic importance for the Dragonguard. However, the population dynamics are starkly different; the number of civilians residing in the city far exceeds the number of Dragonguard personnel. The substantial civilian population contributes to the vibrant tapestry of life in the city, from bustling marketplaces to community gatherings.
Despite being similar to Eldrya, it is worth noting that Drakeridge is much larger, which further explains the higher civilian count. The scale of the city allows for a diverse blend of culture and commerce, making it not only a military stronghold but also a thriving ubran center in its own right.
Defences
The Dragonguard has undertaken extensive fortifications of the city's walls on several occasions throughout the city's history. The most significant efforts have been concentrated on the northern wall, which faces the mountain passageway. This strategic location has made the wall a critical defense point against potential invaders, most notably the Wyrm of Chaos.
History
In the wake of the Wyrm of Chaos's surrender and the conclusion of the Draconian War, the defeated Wyrm was escorted through the rugged terrain of the Drakeridge Pass. A contingent of Ancient Dragkin, with a group of devoted Dragongaurd members, established a temporary outpost. It served as a bastion amidst the looming threat of the Wyrm's return. This initial output was rudimentary but essential.
Throughout the following year, an influx of additional personnel arrived at the outpost. Recognizing the need for enhanced security and stability, these dedicated individuals worked tirelessly to fortify the encampment. The outpost was transformed into a formidable stronghold against any emerging threats.
Over the years, the outpost flourished. What once was a simple encampment evolved into a well-guarded installation equipped to handle the unique challenges and responsibilities of its particular position. It had turned into a bustling garrison city. Recognizing the need for development, the Dragonguard meticulously expanded the city's infrastructure and defenses to accommodate the growing population. Eventually, parks and public squares emerged, fostering a sense of community and belonging among the inhabitants.
Each addition was thoughtfully designed to complement the surrounding landscape, forming a vibrant urban center that reflected the aspirations of its people and the Dragonguard's dedication to their protection and prosperity.
Climate
The climate of the city is predominantly cold, a characteristic shaped by its proximity to Frostcrest and its northern location. However, the expansive Drakeridge Mountains, which stretch from coast to coast, serve as a natural barrier and shield the city from harsh arctic winds. This geographical advantage creates a more temperate environment, enabling residents to enjoy a relatively comfortable living experience despite the colder temperatures typical of the region.

I love me a strategically positioned city, and this one protects against a ancient monster, which is very cool! I also like how realistic the city's story is, especially how you describe its growth!
