Terrace Building - 611 Gedney Street

Another of the older apartment buildings in town, many of the residents of this four story building enjoy its older look. There are 16 two bedroom apartments here, and on average one unit per year is open for rental. Rooms go for $75 a month. It is a decent place to live, though not as well-fitted as the Guardian Apartments.   Playwright Daniel MacKnight, 28. lives on the second floor here, haunted by several journals he found in the basement years ago. These are the diaries of former resident, professional medium Gerrhardt Wvinch, who disappeared from his apartment on Halloween night in 1940, at the age of 45.   The seven volumes MacKnight discovered are from the years 1929 - 1933 and describe in detail séances, contacts with "the other side," day to day activities, and the psychic's theories on unseen terrors in the universe.   MacKnight has been influenced profoundly by these books. With the help of his girlfriend Veronica Long, the owner of Madam Vera’s Tarot, he is trying to contact Wvinch and then write a play about it. The two use a Ouija Board several times a week in hopes of contacting Gerrhardt, but they have not had success. They did one night channel in young Rebecca Shafner, an 8 year old girl who was murdered in 1924. This event bothered the two very much; they are now very interested in researching her murder and who was responsible for it.   MacKnight is the head playwright for the Manley Theatre's acting troupe the New Jerusalem Stage Company. He makes very little money doing this and supplements his income by working at the New Jerusalem Public Library as a librarian's assistant. He is always broke and is in debt with his creditors. Despite the financial hardships, he enjoys his life quite a bit. Presently MacKnight does not have a driver's license, as the Commonwealth revoked it from him for driving while intoxicated   Missituk University visiting professor Oliver Smart, 44, also lives in the Terrace Building apartments. Hailing from London, Smart speaks with a very noticeable British accent. His academic area of expertise is Jewish history and culture.   Smart believes his apartment is haunted by the ghost of a tall, blond man with a German accent – he’s seen the apparition twice, which has even spoken a few words to him. Professor Smart has been more mystified than horrified by the apparition and does not wish to move until he secures a more permanent position at Missituk.   Smart's loving Dachshund, Dolly, is very aware of the apparition, but it doesn't bother her too much; the strange ghostly man seems aware of her and is kindly towards her when she is in the apartment alone.
