Gino's Neapolitan Pizzeria - 577 Jenkinne Street

One of the best, and the very best on the northside of the river, pizzerias in New Jerusalem. Gino's is well named, for Gino Cozzolino is actually from Naples, having immigrated to the United States after World War II. He and his wife, Boston-born Isabella Cozzolino nee' Russo, set out to do their best to capture all the promises of the American dream, and through hard, often grueling work and Isabella's money smarts they have. Gino's opened four years ago and quickly became not only a neighborhood institution but a town favorite. The couple live above the pizzeria, but they hope to soon purchase a new home, along with 5-year-old Gino Jr., the apple of their parental eyes. Gino Jr. is a bit spoiled, but that will probably change soon, as Isabella is currently pregnant with their second child.   Open 11 a.m.–9 p.m., Monday-Saturday. Closed Sundays. Gino's offers limited delivery service to New Jerusalem, mostly Northside and those areas in the outskirts nearest to the Northside neighborhood.   Also living here is Pepperoni, a young but ever growing Neapolitan Mastiff who was purchased specifically for Gino Jr. on his first birthday. Pepperoni is the quintessential 'gentle giant.' An intimidating figure, he is kind and easy going until anyone or anything seems to even vaguely threaten Gino Jr.; then he is a mass of muscle and teeth that leaves few unmarked, as a drunken patron who brashly knocked Gino Jr. down last year learned.
