B&M Train Station - 298 W High Lane

Passenger trains from Newburyport and points north arrive at 9 a.m., noon, and 5 p.m. for Boston, departing ten minutes after the hour. Trains from Boston and points south arrive at 7:30 and 11:30 a.m., and 5:40 p.m. for the north, departing ten minutes later. Fare for Boston is $3.50, and for Newburyport $2.20. Freight trains are frequent.   Also the Western Union Office is located here for convenience sake.   State Police usually have at least one undercover officer here during rush hour. They are looking for drug dealers, runaways, pick pockets, perverts, and criminals on the lamb. These efforts are usually in conjunction with the New Jerusalem Police Department.   The train is referred to as the "T," and the police who work this beat are known as T-Cops. T-Cops are not New Jerusalem police but part of the Metropolitan Boston police force. Relations between town police and the T officers are professional.   The station can be a very lonely place late at night, an island of concrete and brick lit by harsh white circles of lamplight.   Paul Bishop works as a conductor on the trains to Boston from the B&M train station, and has done so for years. He knows a lot about the passengers that use the train, from which ones are regulars, to those who visit intermittently, to those who seem to be complete strangers. Paul has a good eye for who is using the train, something that he has worked on because he also has a side-line telling anyone with the funds just who he has seen and when. Paul’s morals are flexible enough that he doesn’t care if there’s fallout from passing such knowledge on.
