The Eastern Calradian empire

Upon the ascension of Ariminius to the Emperorship, the nobles of the East were concerned about their position in government. In centuries past it had been custom that an elected council of lords would rule alongside the emperor, to give guidance, and provide a check on the power of the Emperor, should they ever become corrupted. However, in recent years the power of the senate had been waning, and Ariminius had been the leader of a faction within the state that sought to dissolve it entirely, claiming it was a "corrupt den of useless old men". Whatever the case, the senate argued that it was the last remaining powerful voice of the people and some banded together to defy the orders of Ariminius. They are led by Lucon Osticos, an influential senator and aristocrat who wants the Senate have the right to appoint the new emperor. When Ariminius claimed the throne in Nazzareth, he proclaimed that the Senate was dissolved, but the lords of the east instead formed a new government instead, a Republic.   Though more Rural than the West, the Eastern Empire had long thrived on trade with the South, and so has many talented craftsmen and artisans.

Demography and Population

The population of The Eastern Calradian empire is divided by race as follows:
  • 67% Human 15% Dwarven 4% Elvish 9% Gnomish 4% Halfling

Military

The people of the East are also hardy, and many are used to a difficult life outside of cities. Man-for-man the soldiers of the East can best those of the West, but are lacking in number. In addition, they have begun to field forces of horsearchers, a concept not yet developed in the West and incredibly effective against the Heavy Infantry fielded by the Western Empire.

Worship

As is the case throughout the former empire, this nation enforces what is close to a state religion. It is generally not tolerated for anyone of any level of authority to be a worshipper of any but a Saint of Godric. It is even not uncommon for an individual not in authority, but has gained too much influence through their actions, to be forced to publicly proclaim their religious beliefs in favour of the Saints of Order, or risk retaliation from the state.    Though not illegal, Fey worship is heavily frowned upon by the church, and devout followers of the saints of order. It would not be uncommon for someone who is an open Fey worshipper to be refused service form businesses, or be openly heckled in the streets. Fey worshippers are also often framed for crimes, as their word is not considered to be strong, as they are believed to be liars and deceivers.    Churches exist of each of the saints in every major city. Smaller towns will often have a single church, within which there are specific altars to the different saints. For each Saint there is a respective church organization that oversees their worshippers, and these organizations have grown quite large and wealthy. Many churches will themselves hire monster hunters on behalf of communities, or will work to root out daemonic corruption or daemonic heretics.
