Amitatys

The Daemon chieftain of Amitatys had a particularly grim reputation, a tyrant who slaughtered innocents to appease the gods of the underworld in the hope they would grant him immortality and a position as a Greater Daemon. Inevitably, he fell into conflict with the crusaders of the new empire from Nazzareth , and during the siege an earthquake brought on by Saint Aethelstan crumbled his walls and allowed imperial troops into the city. More died in the ensuing sack than the tyrant had ever killed, but it was holy war, and the outcome - attributed to the wrath of Heaven - was the death of more daemons and daemon worshippers than most other battles of the crusades. This battle would be a staple of Imperial propaganda for years to come.   The city today is the funnel through which the people, goods, and ideas of the East interact with the West, and is a city of great riches as a result. Unfortunately, it was also the seat of power for Emperor Lucon Osticos, and has thus become a beacon of resistance against incursions by armies of The Western Calradian Empire. Despite this, the constant movement of soldiers and armies from the Easy through the city, and it being a seat of power, has led it to grow significantly. Mercenaries looking for opportunity, junior politicians looking to rise in a new empire, business leaders looking to take advantage of new lands, all are apart of this city of prospective opportunity. This phenomenon makes the city one of the most culturally diverse city, with so many peoples and cultures flowing in and out of it.    Unfortunately this has also made the city a prime target for the The Western Calradian Empire, especially with how close it is to Nazzareth. Luckily the defence of Lake Nyestra continues, and for now the city is safe. The peasants of the towns along the river though, are not so lucky.
