Zeonica
Zeonica sits by the seaside at the base of the Ilataric Hills below the The Fellsen Mountains, a land of wine, grain, and horses. It was named for the Lady Zeona, one of the few women to rule the Empire - admittedly as regent for her son rather than Empress Regnant. It is known for the Zeonic Wind, a gale that blows northward across The Perassic Sea every summer carrying the burning heat of the Nahasa Desert to the imperial south. In other seasons the weather here is mild, a weather pattern that has provided many a poet with a metaphor for the transience of passion.
Zeonica has often been referred to as a "resort city", where the senators, business owners and other cream of society will go to enjoy their summers. The wine produced here can only be rivalled by a few cities of the continent, and it is said that the horses that graze in it's fields are the fastest anywhere (if not the most hardy). The lovely atmosphere has attracted many artists and poets to reside here, and one of the only schools of music and arts on the continent was founded in Zeonica two centuries ago. The Anabilia School of performing arts was founded by an imperial senator in memory of his wife, who loved to sing and play music, and was so good as to be invited weekly to play for the emperor. The graduates of this school fill the great halls of the nations with music, and many great artists made their start here (with a hefty chunk of cash to pay tuition of course.).
The city is defended on all sides by natural geographic blockers that make approaching the city unnoticed difficult, and have always made it easy for the defenders to block the enemy force before it reaches the city. Thus the city has never truly had to deal with siege or warfare, and has little in the way of defenses. Instead, the city is built along a number of small peninsulas, each surrounded by the waters of the sea. This allows each district of the city to have direct access to the water, as well as the land, which rises up on all sides before levelling out into plainsland filled with grape vines, golden wheat fields, and horse pastures.
