Vostrum
Vostrum was founded by the Old Calradian mercenary Archacos, one of a number of rogue commanders who attempted to broke away from the empire during the chaos of the great crusades, reclaiming the lands from the Daemons for himself, rather than the gods. Unlike some, who tried to reproduce the empire's power structure and religion, he chose to rule as a self appointed god-king. His dynasty lasted for generations, until imperial troops arrived and overran it to purge the city and the surrounding area of his heresy against the All-Father. They smashed every haloed statue of Archacos and his successors into rubble. Even today, nobles of The Western Calradian Empire and The Eastern Calradian empire occasionally accuse House Antares, the rulers of the city, of being closet heretics who want to re-assert themselves as gods on earth, like Archacos did. The local nobles though fervently claim that the giant statues of angels erected in the city are to show their devotion to the faith, not to self-aggrandize themselves.
The city has an ideal deep-water bay from which the Easterners can produce ships for fighting on The Perassic Sea. In addition, the woods on the other side of The river Sanguin are ideal for shipbuilding and construction. Thus, Vostrum itself is the hub for a number of logging towns in the area. It is from these forresters that many of the archers for the legions of the east are raised, as the local hunting population are well known for the skills with bows and crossbows.
Many talk warily of these forests though, as many have noticed that in recent times they've been regrowing faster than even the largest lumber camps can cut, and the animals have been repopulating rapidly. Of course the locals won't complain, as this has led to an explosion of economic growth, but many others worry that this is a forecast for something evil to come.
