Smithing District

This district is one of the largest in the city, although it doesn’t take up much ground on the surface. As the oldest dwarven area it extends deep underground, making it one of the most vertical districts. Central to the district is a deep pit, 80 yards in diameter called The Well. It descends over 200 feet down to the lowest levels. There are four lifts operating on the edge of the Well, operating in pairs. They operate using a complicated system of counterweights designed by the Builder long ago. On the surface are nearly a dozen blacksmiths, of varying renown, most claiming to use ancient dwarven techniques to produce the finest quality arms, armour and tools. Beneath the surface is a warren of dwarven abodes, including some of the oldest and biggest in the city. Near the bottom of The Well are the entrances to both The Waterworks and Craghammer Ironworks, two of the largest employers in the city. Between both is an enormous Bar- The Miner’s Shaft that serves the workers and local residents.
