Nossu of the North

The Nossu were believed to have descended from one of the ancient tribes wiped out by the Brevessarians, fleeing south and intermingling with the northern extremes of the Gau. The ancient Nossu were seen as barbaric but not especially violent; indeed, many myths speak of them eschewing involvement in the wars of the Three Kingdoms.   For most of Samayan history, the Nossu were a humble people, grazing their animals in the northern half of the nation and paying their taxes to whichever kingdom commanded them with rare complaint. This all changed with the Nuvusma Purchase, when the Opal Dynasty sold off the entirety of the North to the Counts of Eysland. Thousands upon thousands of Nossu fled south into what is now the Cheonsak Marches, bringing with them a simplicity of culture and an outdated favor for commerce that was at odds with the Gau. Worse yet: though the Nossu were decidedly the biggest victims of the Opal Dynasty's actions, the fact that this was an act of commerce, something the Nossu still engaged in, led to many blaming the Nossu for their own misfortunes, and further blaming them for the troubles caused by their mass migration.   Never a populous folk, there are fewer Nossu nowadays than ever, and indeed many have sailed to the Silver Isle to learn new trades with the Donni there. Some still seek to lease out their labor to those few Gau that still retain personal wealth, leading to more upheavals in present days.
