Gau Malh Language in Ardre | World Anvil

Gau Malh

The traditional language of the Samayan peoples. It has noticeable influences from Viisianar, but is otherwise very different from Northern and Eastern languages, outdone only by the Eysch tongue from the great isle of Eysland.   Gau Malh, or "Gau Speak," incorporates some elements from an ancient language of the Donni people, but it is mostly a symbol of Gau hegemony in Samaya. Toward the height of the Opal Dynasty, nobles were developing strong relations with other countries, and as such the Vainan language had spread throughout powerful families. Merchants paid fortunes to learn the tongue in order to elevate their station, but matters reversed sharply with the fall of commerce, and traditional Gau Malh experienced a major resurgence. Vainan is still taught to all citizens as a means of understanding the rest of the eastern continent, but Gau Malh is now proudly embraced as the true and only mother tongue.
