Gau of the Woodlands

When outsiders imagine the Samayans, it is the Gau from whom they draw most of their assumptions. There are more Gau than any other kind of Samayan, and they are generally considered the center and driver of national culture.   The Gau are traditionally considered the children of Sugau Uion and his forty daughters, who supposedly ruled over Samaya in the The Time of Waters. Their children and grandchildren were called the Ten-Thousand Gau, and countless stories speak of their exploits both mythic and humble; many of these legends include interactions with Chaugeung the Hero, despite that he lived during the The Time of Fire.   The Three Kingdoms (Cherry, Bellflower, and Elm) all claim descent from Sugau and were all predominantly Gau. Likewise, what few leaders still exist in Samaya are of Gau stock.
