The Storm Plains
A vast stretch of grassland and savanna in the western Wildlands, permanently scarred by the Everstorm’s touch. The land here is dotted with charred craters, glassed earth from lightning strikes, and twisted trees frozen mid-fall. The nomadic tribes that live here treat the storm as a deity, reading its movements as omens.
The Storm Plains belong to no single ruler, kingdom, or nation—no one can hold dominion over a land that refuses to be tamed. Instead, it is home to nomadic tribes that have learned to live in harmony with the Everstorm, treating it as a god, spirit, or omen.
These tribes, primarily humans and orcs, along with some half-giants and scattered centaur clans, move with the storm rather than against it. They believe the land is sacred, shaped by the storm’s wrath and wisdom, and to claim it as one’s own would invite destruction.
The Storm Plains are a land of untamed power, where the sky rules and the ground obeys. The nomadic tribes revere and fear the Everstorm, moving in its wake and shaping their lives around its movements.
Geography
The Storm Plains are a vast expanse of rolling grasslands and savanna, scarred and reshaped by the Everstorm’s relentless fury.
- The Charred Flats: A region where lightning has struck so frequently that the ground is covered in blackened craters and scorched earth, with fields of obsidian glass where the sand and soil melted under the heat.
- The Thunder Peaks: Low, jagged hills constantly battered by winds, where strange magnetic forces cause metal to vibrate and hum. These peaks attract massive lightning bolts, making them dangerous but spiritually significant to the tribes.
- The Skybreaker Trees: Twisted, petrified trees frozen mid-collapse, struck by countless bolts over the years. Some are so charged with energy that they still crackle with electricity, glowing faintly at night.
- The Shifting Plains: Grasslands that change rapidly due to wildfires, rainstorms, and sudden droughts. The landscape never looks the same for long, leading many to believe it is alive.
Ecosystem
Despite the constant storms, life in the Storm Plains is resilient, fast-moving, and built to withstand nature’s fury.
- Flora:
- Stormgrass: A blue-green grass that conducts electricity, allowing it to survive constant lightning strikes. Some tribes use it for lightning-resistant armor and weaving.
- Thunderblooms: Bright yellow flowers that only bloom after a storm. Their petals absorb static energy and glow faintly in the dark.
- Ashvine: A creeping plant that regrows incredibly fast, even after being burned by wildfires.
- Fauna:
- Stormrunners: Large, four-legged raptors that can sense shifts in air pressure, allowing them to avoid lightning strikes. Some tribes tame them as mounts.
- Thunderhorns: Massive, woolly bison-like creatures with curved horns that store static energy. During storms, they discharge their power in blinding bursts, shocking predators.
- Sky Serpents: Giant, eel-like creatures that ride the stormwinds. Their translucent bodies glow when lightning strikes, and they are often seen circling the Everstorm’s core.
Ecosystem Cycles
The Storm Plains have no set seasons—their environment is dictated by the Everstorm, which changes everything.
- The Everstorm’s Cycle: The Everstorm moves in predictable yet chaotic patterns, returning to certain areas at regular intervals before drifting to new ones. Tribes track these movements and time their migrations accordingly.
- The Fire Rain: Occasionally, the Everstorm ignites falling raindrops, creating burning rain that scorches the ground but leaves behind enriched soil for new growth.
- The Rolling Thunder Season: A time of year when constant, low rumbling thunder can be heard even on clear days, signaling the Everstorm’s distant presence.
Natural Resources
The Storm Plains contain rare materials and elements infused with lightning and wind magic, making them highly valuable.
- Stormglass: Found in the Charred Flats, this glass-like stone is formed when lightning fuses the soil. It is used to craft weapons, armor, and magical conduits.
- Sky-Iron: A rare, magnetized metal that falls from the sky during intense storms. Blacksmiths prize it for its lightweight yet durable nature.
- Everstorm Essence: A mysterious, glowing liquid that gathers in small pools after the storm passes. Consuming it grants temporary bursts of superhuman speed or control over static energy—but prolonged use can lead to madness.
