Sky Serpents remain one of the most mysterious and majestic creatures of the Wildlands, their luminous forms dancing through the storm-torn skies, forever bound to the tempest’s wrath.

Ecology and Habitats

Sky Serpents are massive, eel-like creatures that ride the stormwinds high above the Storm Plains and Thunder Peaks. They are most commonly spotted circling the Everstorm, an eternal storm at the heart of the region. Their ethereal, translucent bodies make them hard to see against the clouds, and they often appear as flickering shadows against lightning flashes.

• Appearance – Their elongated bodies are serpentine and sinuous, covered in thin, nearly translucent scales that shimmer like mist. Their colors shift depending on the storm, appearing pale silver, ghostly blue, or dark gray.
• Size – Some Sky Serpents grow hundreds of feet long, though their weight is negligible due to their naturally buoyant bodies.
• Flight & Movement – Sky Serpents are naturally airborne, moving through the skies as if swimming through water. They are believed to generate their own lift through a combination of electromagnetic fields and natural gas sacs within their bodies.

Sky Serpents have evolved to thrive in storm-charged environments, feeding on ambient energy and airborne prey.

• Lightning Conduction – Their translucent scales absorb electrical energy, causing them to glow when lightning strikes nearby. This stored charge can be discharged as blinding pulses of light, potentially confusing attackers.
• Storm Riding – They navigate using wind currents, controlling their movement by expelling ionized air through specialized vents along their sides.
• Feeding – Sky Serpents primarily absorb ambient energy from storms but will also consume smaller airborne creatures, such as Stormrunners and Wind Serpents. Their jaws unhinge to swallow prey whole.
• Social Structure – They are mostly solitary, but sometimes several serpents gather in the heart of the Everstorm, leading some scholars to believe they reproduce during great tempests.
