Ashvine
A creeping plant that regrows incredibly fast, even after being burned by wildfires.
Basic Information
Ecology and Habitats
Ashvine is a hardy, fast-growing creeping plant native to fire-prone regions of the Storm Plains, particularly in areas like the Charred Flats and Shifting Plains. It thrives in scorched landscapes, often being the first plant to regrow after a wildfire.
- Appearance – Ashvine has dark, ashen-gray vines with small, ember-red leaves that shimmer faintly in the light. During regrowth, its leaves start off blackened and curled, gradually turning vibrant as it absorbs nutrients.
- Growth Conditions – Ashvine is fire-adapted, meaning it can only germinate when exposed to extreme heat. Its underground root network remains intact even after complete surface destruction.
Biological Cycle
Ashvine follows a unique burn-and-regrow cycle, making it one of the most resilient plants in the Storm Plains.
- Dormant Stage – During dry spells, Ashvine retracts its above-ground vines, reducing itself to a network of deep-set roots that store energy.
- Activation by Fire – When wildfires or lightning burn away the plant’s surface, it triggers a rapid regrowth mechanism from the roots.
- Rapid Expansion – Within days of a fire, new vines emerge, spreading quickly across scorched terrain to stabilize the soil and prevent erosion.

Uses, Products & Exploitation
Ashvine’s incredible regrowth ability and fire-resistant properties make it highly valuable for various practical and magical applications.
- Fireproof Weaving – When harvested and treated, Ashvine fibers can be woven into fire-resistant rope, clothing, and armor, commonly used by blacksmiths, adventurers, and fire-dwelling creatures.
- Soil Restoration – Ashvine is sometimes intentionally planted in fire-scorched regions to accelerate regrowth and prevent desertification.
- Potion Ingredient – Some alchemists use Ashvine essence in potions that grant temporary resistance to heat and burns.
- Magical Conductivity – Due to its affinity for fire and lightning, Ashvine is sometimes incorporated into pyromantic rituals and storm-based magic, enhancing the flow of elemental energy.
- Cultural Symbolism – Many Stormborn tribes see Ashvine as a symbol of rebirth and endurance, often incorporating it into tattoos, charms, and funeral rites as a representation of the cycle of destruction and renewal.
Because of its relentless growth, Ashvine is difficult to permanently remove, often overtaking structures or spreading into farmland, making it both a blessing and a nuisance depending on the situation.
