Ileas,
After a day’s travel, we came to the ruins of Ravensfield. After the inferno we left the town in, only the stone foundations of the inn stood, and they made for our camp site when we arrived in the evening. The next day we wished to find Reynis, the companion we were seperated from weeks ago after the battle we fought against Talespinner’s cult. It was hard not to feel like we let Reynis down, we owe him for his help and then got stuck dealing with the cult, going to the Immerglade and settling into Wolf’s Rest.
Sadly Reynis was nowhere to be found, not in the ruins, not at the little camp he had just outside Ravensfield, though Gael’s Dryad friend that hanged out there told him that the army that was stationed there did dig up something at the site of the cult stronghold we attacked. And going over there it became horribly clear what it was: the giant skeleton of a dragon that we found in the cave system close to their hideout was dragged out and moved. And whatever use they have for it, I doubt it spells good for anyone without that demon mask tattoo on them.
So without any further leads we slumped back to Ravensfield, unsure where to look for Reynis next, as we noticed the foresty path we were walking on changed into a nice cobblestone path completely unlike anything near Ravensfield, and to add to it we saw animals alongside it. Gael had a chat with them with his usual magic and learned we were on our way to someone called “Knottie Rootskewer” or Nan, marking the third hag from the infamous coven that we would meet with. And indeed, with the path now flanked by wooden windchimes we arrived to small clearing where the hag was sitting on a stone, watching some children play. The children looked normal enough but what caught our eyes was Ravensfield in the distance: skeletons representing villagers walked around and went on their business like the village never vanished in the first place.
We then talked with Nan Knottie, she explained that she wanted to meet us after we had such colorful encounters with her ‘family’, she also knew we were going up to confront the Black Knight and had an accompanying warning: if we continued going North, two people close to us could die permanently and if we turned back it would be only one. But if we turned back, she added, many we didn’t know would die. And with some cryptic messages about the different values of different lives, she stood up and took the playing children into the woods, leaving us with a shattering illusion as the reality of the ruins of Ravensfield came back.
Taking the Hag’s words in the choice was rather simple: we wouldn’t know who would die that was close to us (it could even be us) but we did know many would die to the Black Knight’s continued onslaught. And a hag’s words are easily twisted, who knows what the truth of it actually looks like. Though, I’m hardly making a clear judgement here since the black knight and what he did to Gideon still gnawed at me. So in the end, we travelled onwards to Latebra Velora.
