Though the closest we got was that this place might be similar to the dungeon under Caern Fussil, so this place might house another elemental heart that Amarra wanted Luke to gather. All that meant that there would be more statues in the area that we have to look into. And we did indeed, find other dwarven statues, similarly holding out their hands and having an accompanying riddle, all talking about gems:
“In Nature’s embrace, a lush green gleam, a gem of balance it does seem. Symbol of life and prosperity’s bloom. This treasure shines, dispelling gloom”
“A fiery gem, a passion’s blaze, in hues of red, its beauty amaze. A symbol of love, desire and power. This gem reigns supreme in every hour”
We also encountered the rust monsters a bit further on, they withered more of my brother’s plate as we struck them down. Eventually it all led to a giant room at the end of the sprawling caves, two giant pools of acid flanking a path towards a giant floating gem: this was an elemental heart after all.
But Luke’s magic meddling was interrupted when a voice warned us twice and then manifested as an ooze, somehow the master mage of this heart had transformed themselves into an ooze-like entity, forcing us to retreat and strategize. In the end Luke made his triumphant entrance, boldly declaring the heart to be his and starting a tense fight. For you see, after an entire day of fighting we were all running on fumes, potent fumes for sure, but still fumes. There were a few close calls, but in the end the wizard fell. Not that I remember much, a swarm of summoned tentacles managed to knock me out, but when I got back up Luke was already studying the barrier. It was a permanent one that probably involved solving the puzzle with the dwarven statues, but it was quite clear we needed gems from the… friendly xorn we encountered, and we were not really inclined to attack them. So hoping the next day provided Luke with the magic strength to overpower the barrier we set up camp and went to bed. And indeed, the next day Luke, with some help of his Boggle familiar Pim, managed to overpower the barrier and Pim got the gem out. Let’s hope he can avoid the fate of the last owner and not turn into a giant hermit ooze, don’t think it would do his pursuit of Elsa much good.
Though, as with Caern Fussill, removing the heart made the cave start collapsing, reducing us to a hectic scramble for the staircase, and what’s worse is that the giant ooze from upstairs could now make swings at us, forcing Hayley to summon a fey to take a hit and some last minute maneuvering on my end managed to deflect another swing. And with that we made it out of the caves and back into the ruins.
After catching our breath the dragon-like creatures we saves from the Wyverns came to us, and this time we noticed one of them had a copper-tint to their scales (the others were more red) and started speaking to us in draconic. They introduced themselves as Geroda and asked us about the dragon’s hoard, they knew the dragon and informed us that unlike what we believed the dragon is still alive and would come back, hitting us right into our conscience. And even though we had many good uses in mind for the gold, building defenses and amenities for Wolf’s Rest, it wasn’t really ours to take so we put back what we took. Geroda also asked our names and claimed the dragon might want to speak to us, even thank us, if they came back.
We asked Geroda to bring us to the wyvern nest, a bit further in the ruins, to see if anything remained of the infection. Luckily, we didn’t find any other wyverns, but less luckily, there were quite a few human and animal remains. So we took some rings, scraps of clothing, in the hopes the people at the ranch we came from could identify who they were.
With everything done, we thought it was best to deal with the Basilisks, but Geroda and his kin convinced us not to. They were a part of their defense system and the people in the area do not travel here anymore. And the statues we saw were already quite old. But in return they said they’d fly us back to our horses, so we didn’t risk running into them.
So we all made it back safe to the ranch, where we spread the word of what happened and inquired about the remains, finding they belonged to those already missing for a few weeks.
Now I have to cut this one short, I have a report to write for the knights that were called by the ranch who are certainly on their way. Hopefully they won’t be annoyed at us robbing them of a few days travel and a good adventure.

P.S.: I managed to finish a song. This time for Luke! Though I have to admit it’s not as catchy as The Young Stag.
The Passionate Inferno:
In Tarn’s fair vale, in Immerglade’s shades,
A wizard was born, his destiny awaits.
Twin to Hayley, the raven of the night,
Luke Thomas rose, with flames alight.
Oh Passionate Inferno, with flames burning bright,
Peering the future with his magic sight.
Seeking love so his heart may glow,
And his passion melts even the harshest snow.
From Amarra’s hand, he learned the flame,
The heart of Caern Fussil, she left in his name.
A knight in Keralon, the Silver City’s grace,
With fire and vision, he carved his place.
Oh Passionate Inferno, with flames burning bright,
Peering the future with his magic sight.
Seeking love so his heart may glow,
And his passion melts even the harshest snow.
Through love’s sweet trials, his heart did yearn,
But every time, he was left with heartburn
For passion’s fire, like his spells, ran true,
And left him searching anew.
Now lord of Wolf’s Rest, his banner flies,
A tower ablaze ‘neath the northern skies.
Heraldry of flame, his sigil’s might,
A burning tower, his guiding light.
Oh Passionate Inferno, with flames burning bright,
Peering the future with his magic sight.
Seeking love so his heart may glow,
And his passion melts even the harshest snow.
So sing of Luke, the wizard knight,
Whose heart and magic burn ever bright.
In Wolf’s Rest and the Silver City’s glow,
The Passionate Inferno’s flames still show.
With tower on fire, his legend stands,
A lord of flame, with fiery hands.
