Hello Ileas,
Today, Luke’s wizard academy finally came back to him about the testing he could do to get his degree as a mage of Keralon. The letter was awaiting him in the morning and said to gather his things and allies and come “post haste” to a place called the “Hall of Conjuration”. Since Luke has an antagonistic relation with the academy, we were expecting the trials to be set up against him, so we all signed up as his allies and made our way to the examination room.
Once we arrived at the Hall of Conjuration we were met with an assistant of tbe headmaster, who would take Luke’s first exam. He pointed at a table and asked Luke to tell him which item did not belong. The table had a sword, shield, skull, crystal ball, iron pentagram, mirror, a scale from a creature that was quite big, and a flute.
The items all corresponded to schools of magic so Luke eventually deduced that since this test clearly was designed to trick him the answer would be the table, as it was the only object not related to a school of magic. To which the assistant admitted that it was the right answer and had to lead us to the second, more practical part of the trial. This would be through a teleportation circle a few doors away that he activated and said to step through. The test would be to find the way to unlock the portal again.
Now, what ended up happening is that four elementals, one for each of the four elements, attacked us and they contained gems that needed to be placed in certain locations to reactivate the portal. The twist being that all elementals had a shield that could only get broken by elemental damage opposite of the elemental. And here our lack of elemental variety became clear, as while we have enough fire to burn down a small city and a handy few bottles of water we lacked the acid and sonic booms that were required to handle the air and earth elemental respectively. But the test area was generously equipped by some of these things, so a bottle of acid Luke got worked on the air elemental and throwing the earth elemental (who was polymorphed into a turtle) into a pit filled with sonic booms managed to get us what we needed to claim the gems they had inside them.
With those gems, and some climbing by Gael, we got everything in place an the portal opened up again. We did see a small fenced door that locked out the rest of the complex that according to Fianchna’s scouting led to many doors and hallways, probably containing many stored secrets and experiments of the mages in this academy. But as we had completed our task we decided against exploring further.
Going back to the academy, the assistant waited for us and this time took us to the headmaster’s office. Headmaster Bardus Greyson sat behind his desk and looked quite surprised at Luke’s completion fo the tests, and that he had one final test for him. He put a box on the table that contained Luke’s degree, it was his if he could unlock it, as it was magically locked. And no sooner did he finish that sentence for Luke to wave a hand over the box and grasped his certification, becoming an official mage of Keralon. He now has access to the libraries and books Amarra wanted him to get access to.
With that there was only one thing left to do, and Lil and I hoisted him on our shoulders and carried him out in loud celebration, leaving no one in the academy in doubt that Luke passed the trials put before him. But while getting a drink sounded good, it could wait until the evening as I at least wanted to inform the circles about the discoveries we made about Anaya and Mirrdin.
Will write again soon,
Alistan
