The next morning we started the finishing touches on our statues in the fresh Autumn air. Luke helped me melt some copper with fire and I plated the scales of our Drake with it. But as expected the Warg King would send his wolves around noon but as we were prepared the fight was short and terrible for them, as an array of spells reduced them massively. I knocked out a few of them to see if we could interrogate them, but as they could not speak, only understand, and could convey things to their King by telepathy we left that be and followed the tracks of the wolves.
The tracks let us to a strange wind twister that was surrounded by four menhirs, it was strange since there was no tangible wind unless you entered the circle created by the menhirs. Apparently the menhirs controlled the season in the area and remembering the words of the villagers that no attack came on Spring and after Gael made a sacrifice of blooming goodberries the season in the area shifted to Spring, removing the twister and radiating outwards towards the village of Hall, as we saw that the fields around us actually reflected the Material Plane and were in Summer. But more importantly the wind barrier cleared a revealed a hill with a large entrance to what we presumed was the Warg King's lair.
Gael and Liliana decided to announce our arrival, in the hopes to talk things out. And as a giant wolf head came out of the cave, and a few choice words in Sylvan were exchanged, he roared and withdrew, leaving us to go after him.
The cave was divided up into four caverns representing the four seasons. The first was a cavern of spring, with blossoming rose bushes where Liliana gifted a rose she picked up to Hayley, seems their midnight watch was more interesting than they want to let on. But we had little time to think on that as a loud howl pierced through armor and skin and a giant warg launched its attack, with a flank of two dire wolves that came from the next cave. And even though the warg used some regenration abilities, Luke setting it on fire was something they could not heal from. The cavern dedicated to Summer was empty but the one to Autumn with fallen leaves had two dire wolves hiding who despite Lil's best diplomatic efforts would not run off and were bound to help the Warg King who was waiting in the next cavern, so the best thing we could do was leave them be but with some magic from Hayley on them to make them less likely to come after us.
With that we made it to the Warg King's Lair, an icy cavern that was extremely slippery as the giant wolf said on the other side, laughing how he had wasted four days of our time, apparently he was under the orders of Ulther to delay us and that even if we slay him Ulther will bring him back for this service. For a fleeting moment I considered that it was the festival in Hall that delayed us, and that the Warg King's distractions barely affected it, but the battle was upon us. While Lil had some protection from Vivienne to walk over ice the rest of use slid around and slashed at the giant wolf who, while fighting well, did not last long. We put down the Warg King and Hayley cut out his tongue in the hopes that it would not join him in his claimed return, when Ulther revives him.
As there was nothing more left rather than the two dire wolves who wanted to be left alone, we went back to Hall to finish our sculptures, and as we finished them, the Fey walked past each one and with each passing elf or eladrin life came into them and soon a tiger, a goat and a drake (who we've named Thor'yn) stood before us, ready to carry us onwards. They had also provided a price to make travel easier: a silver plate that once a day would give us all a good meal. And with that we went on, to Whitewail. We had scarcely two weeks to get to Nimmerburg and if the Warg King is to be believed almost one of those weeks had already passed, and while we were looking to be much swifter with our new mounts, we can only hope we can overcome other obstacles just as swiftly.
